Booroongen Djugun Limited (BDL) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation. BDL was founded in consultation with traditional Elders and designed to reflect the emotional, spiritual, and physical needs connected with the traditions and customs of Aboriginal people. BDL continues to operate in alignment with these core foundations to this day providing cultural safe services and employment for all Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Residents, Staff, Clients, and Community.

About the role

The Kitchen Catering Assistant is responsible for the preparation and deliver of meal service to the residents of the Aged Care Facility and NDIS clients of Booroongen Djugun Limited.

The Kitchen Catering Assistant is responsible for supporting the preparation, presentation and delivery of nutritious meals to residents of BDL’s Aged Care Facility and NDIS clients. Key duties include assisting the Cook with meal preparation, plating and serving meals according to residents’ individual needs and preferences, maintaining kitchen and dining area cleanliness, and ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are met.



The role also involves supporting NDIS clients with meal preparation and cooking to promote independence and life skills.

The successful candidate will demonstrate safe food handling practices, effective communication, teamwork and a commitment to providing respectful, person-centred service. They will operate kitchen equipment safely, maintain accurate records, follow organisational policies and procedures, and promptly report incidents, complaints or concerns.

Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or food industry is desirable, along with relevant food safety qualifications. The role requires reliability, valuable time management, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, clients and external suppliers.
