We are seeking highly experienced, confident and reliable Disability Support Workers to provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) and community-based support to a participant with complex behavioural, communication and daily living needs.
This is not an entry-level role. The participant requires experienced workers who have strong practical skills supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), intellectual disability, significant behaviours of concern and complex personal care needs.
The successful applicants must be confident implementing Behaviour Support Plans, responding to behavioural escalation, supporting communication needs and providing safe, consistent and person-centred care.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Highly experienced in managing behaviours of concern, including aggression, self-injurious behaviours, property damage and emotional distress, using positive behaviour support and effective de-escalation strategies.
- Experienced supporting individuals with autism and intellectual disability, including substantial daily support needs, sensory sensitivities and limited verbal communication.
- Confident with alternative communication approaches, including simple language, visual prompts, offering choices and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), while allowing appropriate processing time.
- Skilled in personal care and continence support, including showering, dressing, oral hygiene, toileting and providing respectful assistance following continence incidents.
- Experienced in individual mealtime support, including following structured mealtime instructions, recognising choking risks and ensuring secure eating practices.
- Competent in medication support, following authorised medication charts,
maintaining accurate documentation and promptly reporting concerns or discrepancies.
- Confident managing safety risks, including absconding, limited danger awareness, unsafe community access and non-food ingestion behaviours.
- Calm, mature and emotionally resilient, with the ability to remain composed, exercise sound judgement and respond safely in challenging situations.
- Proactive and highly observant, able to recognise early signs of distress, identify potential triggers and respond before situations escalate.
- Reliable and consistent, committed to following established routines, Behaviour Support Plans and clinical care instructions.
- Professional and person-centred, with strong boundaries and the ability to build trusting, respectful relationships while promoting independence, dignity and choice.
- A strong team player, able to communicate effectively with colleagues, clinical professionals and other stakeholders to ensure consistent support.
What we're looking for
We are specifically seeking established Disability Support Workers with demonstrated hands-on experience supporting participants with complex behaviours of concern, autism, intellectual disability and high personal care needs.
Applicants must be able to provide practical examples of their experience managing behavioural escalation, implementing Behaviour Support Plans, supporting complex communication needs and maintaining participant safety.
Consistency is essential. We are looking to build a stable, experienced support team that can deliver safe, reliable and high-quality support across both SIL and community settings.
If you have the experience, confidence and commitment to provide high-quality support to participants with complex needs, we encourage you to apply.
