Machinery Technician – Mechanical Troubleshooting

Vacupack is a Melbourne-based manufacturer of food packaging, operating thermoforming, injection moulding and extrusion equipment. We’re seeking a mechanically minded technician with at least four years of practical fault diagnosis and technical troubleshooting experience.

You may already work with industrial machinery, or you may be an experienced automotive mechanic looking to move into manufacturing. If you can systematically diagnose problems, understand how mechanical systems work and carry out effective repairs, we’d like to hear from you.

The role

You’ll work closely with Production and Maintenance to diagnose machinery faults, resolve operating problems and keep our equipment running safely and consistently.

When a machine produces outside the required specification, you’ll investigate the cause, make appropriate adjustments within approved operating limits and confirm that production has returned to the required quality standard.

Your responsibilities

- Diagnose mechanical faults and investigate machinery performance problems.
- Troubleshoot equipment stoppages, inconsistent operation and product quality issues.
- Adjust machine settings following diagnosis to restore stable production within specification.
- Carry out minor mechanical repairs and component replacements within your training and authorisation.
- Assist with sensor fault finding and replacement, involving qualified trades where required.
- Perform mould and tooling changes, including protected removal,



installation and setup.
- Support machine start-ups, changeovers and production restarts.
- Escalate complex faults to Maintenance and work with the team to resolve recurring problems.
- Record faults, adjustments and repairs, and communicate clearly between shifts.
- Follow machine isolation, safety, quality and production procedures.

What you’ll bring

- At least four years of hands-on experience in fault diagnosis and technical troubleshooting, gained in automotive repair, industrial machinery, mechanical fitting or a similar technical environment.
- A strong mechanical mindset and a systematic approach to identifying the cause of a problem.
- Practical ability to adjust, repair and maintain mechanical equipment.
- Confidence working with moving machinery, mechanical assemblies, sensors and tooling.
- A willingness to learn plastics processing equipment and production requirements.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operators and maintenance staff.
- A strong commitment to safe work and consistent product quality.

A relevant automotive, mechanical fitting or similar trade qualification will be highly regarded. Previous plastics manufacturing experience is beneficial, but we also welcome applicants with strong transferable diagnostic skills.
