Whitty Engineering is a family-owned engineering business delivering customised mechanical, fabrication and materials-handling solutions across timber, construction, housing and industrial sectors. Established in 2008, the business now employs over 60 staff in a purpose-built Mount Gambier workshop.

They are seeking Mechanical Engineers at both Graduate and Experienced levels to join their growing engineering team in Mount Gambier. These roles suit people who enjoy solving practical mechanical problems, designing machinery and bulk handling equipment for industrial environments, and contributing to continuous improvement across the workshop.

About the Roles

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will support the design, development and improvement of mechanical equipment, components and systems used across heavy industrial and bulk materials-handling applications.

Key Responsibilities (Graduate & Experienced)

· Assist with mechanical design for small to large projects, including customised machinery and equipment.

· Develop and evaluate designs, models and drawings using CAD tools.

· Troubleshoot mechanical issues and support improvements to existing equipment.

· Contribute to project documentation, quality records and audit trails.

· Participate in project progress meetings and collaborate with workshop, production and site teams.

· Support continuous improvement, cost-reduction and innovation initiatives.





· Maintain accurate records, timekeeping and compliance with ISO9001 processes.

· Uphold WHS, environmental and safety standards.

Additional Responsibilities (Experienced Engineer)

· Provide technical direction to production teams.

· Lead design modifications to eliminate process or equipment issues.

· Engage in R&D; activities, testing and scaling new designs.

· Build strong customer and supplier relationships.

· Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering governance.

About You

Experienced Engineer

· Mechanical Engineering degree with experience in industrial manufacturing or bulk materials handling.

· Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, reliability, root cause analysis and production processes.

· Skilled in CAD, MS Project and engineering documentation.

· Able to lead, influence and drive improvements.

Graduate Engineer

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

· Robust CAD skills (AutoCAD, Inventor).

· Curious, proactive and eager to learn.

· Able to balance priorities and work collaboratively.
