We are seeking a Seafood Retail Assistant to join the team at Commercial Fisherman's Co-Operative Ltd in Wickham, NSW. This is a casual position for the December/January period only that offers an exciting opportunity to work in the vibrant seafood retail sector. You will be at the forefront of our customer-facing operations, helping us deliver exceptional service and quality seafood products to our valued customers. This role is ideal for individuals seeking casual work that allows them to develop valuable retail experience whilst maintaining schedule flexibility.
What you'll be doing
As a Seafood Retail Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting customers with product selection and providing knowledgeable advice about our seafood offerings
- Processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently using point-of-sale systems
- Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic retail environment in accordance with food safety standards
- Receiving, displaying and rotating stock to ensure freshness and visual appeal
- Preparing seafood products for sale, including filleting, portioning and packaging as required
- Restocking shelves and maintaining attractive product displays throughout the shop
- Handling cash and card payments with accuracy and integrity
- Supporting the team with general housekeeping and cleaning duties
- Following food safety and hygiene regulations to maintain product quality and customer safety
What we're looking for
To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:
- Previous retail or customer service experience, ideally in a food or seafood environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a genuine passion for delivering excellent customer service
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail setting and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Reliable,
punctual and flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to casual scheduling requirements
- Basic mathematical skills and proficiency with point-of-sale systems or willingness to learn
- Positive personal hygiene practices and understanding of food safety principles
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights
- A friendly, positive attitude and commitment to working collaboratively with team members
- Current food handling certification or willingness to obtain one (preferred)
