Business Transformation Consultant (AI & Automation) – Contract
Location: Sydney
Engagement: Contract (initial 6 months, extension possible)
Focus Area: Business Improvement, AI & Automation, and Value Realisation
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced consultant to work with business stakeholders on practical improvements to how work gets done, applying automation and AI where they genuinely add value, with a focus on explicit priorities and measurable outcomes.
You'll bring a consulting mindset to shaping problems, assessing opportunities and keeping the focus on outcomes, working alongside business and technology colleagues to make sure improvements are well defined, prioritised and delivered.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
- Understand the problem: Work with stakeholders to uncover operational pain points and turn loosely defined challenges into clear problem statements.
- Improve how work gets done: Facilitate process mapping and improvement workshops to simplify and streamline ways of working.
- Prioritise: Assess improvement ideas and recommend where effort should be focused for the greatest impact.
- Build the case: Develop clear business cases, define success measures and track the benefits delivered.
- Connect business and technology: Translate improved processes into clear requirements and acceptance criteria for delivery teams, and help determine where AI or rule-based automation is the right fit.
- Keep delivery on track: Maintain visibility of progress and align with governance and standards.
- Support adoption: Work with change and business teams to embed new ways of working.
What You'll Bring
Core Skills
- Consulting-style problem solving:
Confidence leading discovery sessions and getting to root causes rather than symptoms.
- Process improvement: Practical experience with Lean principles and process mapping (Lean Green Belt or equivalent working knowledge).
- Technology awareness: Ability to review solution designs, understand the difference between AI-driven and rule-based automation, and write clear functional acceptance criteria.
- Commercial acumen: Comfortable with business case development and advantages tracking.
- Sound judgement: Willingness to challenge assumptions and focus on what adds the most value.
- Collaborative design: Experience using wireframes and prototypes to test ideas with stakeholders.
- Stakeholder influence: Ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
How You Work
- Outcome-focused: You measure success by value delivered, not activity.
- Curious: You question the status quo, champion simpler ways of working and are comfortable experimenting with AI and emerging technology.
- Collaborative: You build strong partnerships across business and technology teams.
- Data-driven: You use data and insights to guide decisions.
- Results-oriented: You recognise and celebrate measurable improvements and successful change.
Your Background
- Substantial experience in consulting, business partnering,
continuous improvement or similar roles within large organisations.
- Demonstrated experience applying Lean, Six Sigma or process mapping techniques to improve operational workflows.
- Proven track record developing business cases and tracking delivery against agreed benefits.
- Good technical literacy across modern automation approaches, including RPA and AI-enabled workflows, and experience working with technology teams in Agile environments (Jira/Confluence).
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience influencing senior leaders.
