Transport For Nsw

Dubbo

You enjoy solving problems in a complex environment to deliver the best outcomes for millions of people.

You have the opportunity to gain a wealth of expertise and a diverse range of skills, providing insight and knowledge without losing sight of your work-life balance or wellbeing.

In this role, you'll:

Join our Enterprise SCEM team, where you will help strengthen crisis and emergency preparedness across Transport for NSW by developing practical arrangements that enable operational teams to prepare for and respond effectively to emergencies and major incidents.

You will interpret emergency management plans and frameworks, translating them into clear, workable response arrangements that can be applied across a complex operating environment. Your role will focus on preparing and supporting operational teams, coordinating response activities and improving organisational readiness rather than directly managing frontline or field-based operations.

You will:

- Develop and maintain hazard-specific crisis and emergency management plans, procedures and operational response arrangements for the transport network.

- Coordinate Transport's participation in Local and Regional Emergency Management Committees and Bush Fire Management Committees, including representation where applicable, attendance, submissions, actions and follow-up.

- Prepare transparent, accurate and practical written advice, briefings, correspondence and guidance on complex emergency management matters.

- Build strong working relationships with operational teams, emergency services, councils and partner agencies to ensure Transport's risks, dependencies and operational requirements are understood.

- Support the coordination of Transport activities during emergencies and major incidents, including deployment to Emergency Operations Centres where required,

providing specialist advice and maintaining situational awareness to help enable an effective response.

- Contribute to preparedness, response and recovery activities, using lessons from incidents, exercises and stakeholder engagement to strengthen future arrangements.

We currently have 3 x Permanent Full-Time positions, ideally located in Wollongong, Grafton and Dubbo, although as this team operates statewide we are open to considering applications from candidates located throughout NSW. These positions will also require an element of on-call availability to support during major emergencies.

For more information on this position and business unit, view the role description and information pack.

About you

You will bring experience in emergency management, incident management, transport operations or a similarly complex operational environment, with the ability to interpret plans and frameworks and turn them into practical arrangements that support operational teams.

Experience coordinating emergency management committees, multi-agency planning, hazard-specific planning or exercises will be highly regarded. Experience representing an organisation on Bush Fire Management Committees and applying bush fire risk management processes, relevant legislation and land manager responsibilities, or developing flood emergency plans, would be particularly valuable, although this specific experience is not essential.

You will have strong planning, coordination and communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate and practical written advice, briefings and operational guidance.

You will also be comfortable building effective relationships across operational teams, government agencies, emergency services and councils, bringing different stakeholders together to support coordinated outcomes.

Your sound judgement and ability to work calmly in complex and time-critical situations will enable you to support preparedness and operational responses when incidents occur. An understanding of the transport network and the challenges of delivering services across metropolitan and regional NSW would also support your success in the role.

You will hold relevant tertiary qualifications or have equivalent practical experience, along with a current driver licence and the ability to participate in an on-call response arrangement, including deployment to Emergency Operations Centres where required during major emergencies.
