Stahl Metall Pty Ltd is an Australian advanced engineering and manufacturing company specialising in the design and production of high-reliability electrical, electronic and mechanical assemblies for defence, aerospace, marine and industrial applications. The company's capabilities include custom cable and harness assemblies, communication and power distribution systems, electronic box-build assemblies, ruggedised enclosures and precision-engineered components. Its operations involve custom engineering, build-to-print manufacturing, prototype development, controlled production and technical testing, supported by AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.

About the Role

Stahl Metall Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Engineering Technologist to join its engineering and manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing existing engineering technologies, evaluating technical processes and applying engineering principles to improve the manufacture, testing and implementation of complex electrical, electronic and mechanical assemblies.

The position involves reviewing engineering specifications, developing technical drawings and documentation, assessing manufacturing methods, conducting technical evaluations and supporting the implementation of engineering improvements across prototype development and production activities.

Location: Unit 5/1470 Ferntree Gully Road, Knoxfield VIC 3180

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 per annum plus Superannuation

Key Responsibilities

- Analyse existing engineering technologies, manufacturing methods and technical processes used in the production of cable harnesses, electronic assemblies, power distribution systems and precision-engineered components.
- Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, bills of materials and customer requirements to assess the suitability of manufacturing methods, assembly procedures and technical solutions.
- Evaluate and recommend modifications to existing engineering processes, tooling arrangements and production technologies to improve manufacturing accuracy, efficiency and product reliability.

- Prepare and modify engineering drawings, technical layouts, assembly documentation and supporting specifications using appropriate computer-aided design and engineering software.
- Apply engineering principles to assess the practical implementation of custom-designed and build-to-print assemblies, including material selection, component compatibility, assembly methods and manufacturing requirements.
- Develop and evaluate technical procedures for prototype builds, first-article production and the transition of engineering designs into controlled manufacturing processes.
- Conduct technical tests and evaluations of electrical, electronic and mechanical assemblies to assess performance, functionality and compliance with specified engineering requirements.
- Analyse test results, identify technical defects or performance limitations and recommend appropriate modifications to engineering designs, assembly methods or manufacturing processes.
- Investigate manufacturing-related technical issues, including dimensional discrepancies, component fitment problems, assembly inconsistencies and deviations from approved engineering specifications.
- Collaborate with design engineers, production personnel and quality assurance staff to implement engineering improvements and resolve technical issues affecting manufacturing and product performance.
- Review engineering changes and assist with updating technical drawings, manufacturing instructions and configuration-controlled documentation to ensure approved modifications are accurately implemented.
- Prepare technical evaluation reports,

test records and engineering recommendations to support continuous improvement and compliance with applicable engineering specifications and quality standards.

Candidate Requirements

- A Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in engineering technology, manufacturing engineering, production engineering support or a comparable engineering role.
- Demonstrated experience analysing engineering technologies, evaluating manufacturing processes and implementing technical improvements.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles relevant to electrical, electronic and mechanical manufacturing processes.
- Experience interpreting and preparing engineering drawings, technical specifications, bills of materials and assembly documentation.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design software, such as CATIA, Autodesk applications or comparable engineering design tools.
- Experience supporting prototype development, first-article evaluation, manufacturing implementation or controlled production activities.
- Ability to conduct technical testing, analyse results and identify engineering modifications required to improve product performance.
- Familiarity with precision manufacturing, cable harness assemblies, electronic enclosures, power distribution systems or similar engineered products will be highly regarded.
- Understanding of engineering documentation, configuration control and quality requirements associated with ISO 9001 or AS9100D environments.
- Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing and quality assurance personnel while managing assigned technical responsibilities.
- Only candidates currently residing in Australia will be shortlisted.
