About the Role:

We are seeking a Director of Medicine - General for a permanent senior leadership position at a major regional referral and teaching hospital in Launceston, TAS. This is a fixed-term, full-time appointment (up to 76 hours per fortnight) commencing as soon as possible for a three-year period. You will provide direction and leadership for Surgical Services at an accredited 450-bed teaching hospital the principal referral centre for Tasmania's North and North-West with responsibility for effective and efficient service delivery, financial oversight, and the maintenance of teaching and research.

- Overall responsibility for the management of Surgical Services, delivering an efficient and effective service
- Ensure the Department of Surgery achieves best practice and is seen as a model for regional surgical services through excellence in governance and evidence-based practice
- Oversee the main Operating Room Suites and Day Procedure Unit across surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology and anaesthesia services
- Manage surgical outpatient clinics to provide an efficient and effective service
- Undertake a clinical surgical load in a relevant specialty as required
- Manage all physical, financial and human resources within Surgical Services
- Lead performance, development, supervision and education portfolios for medical staff
- Participate in statewide strategic planning committees and the planning of future surgical services across the Northern Area
- Ensure active involvement in safety and quality programs in line with NSQHS Standards

About You:

- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
- Fellowship of a relevant specialist College (desirable)
- Demonstrated senior leadership and management experience within surgical or medical services
- Strong governance, financial and resource management capability
- Commitment to teaching, research and evidence-based practice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Eligible to work in Australia
