Job Description

Senior Data Analyst

Location - Parramatta ( Flexible work arrangements are offered, minimum 50% attendance in the office)

Employment type – Temporary full-time role until 30 June 2028

Salary - $133,348.00 - $146,945.00 pa, plus superannuation and leave loading

Your role

The Senior Data Analyst plays an important role in BOCSAR’s mission to improve community safety and justice outcomes in NSW. Working at the intersection of policy, research and data analysis, the role leads complex analytical projects that inform evidence-based decision-making across government. The position combines strong technical expertise with sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills to deliver independent, high-quality analysis that informs criminal justice policy and service delivery.

What you’ll do

Day-to-day, the Senior Data Analyst will extract, link, clean, and analyse complex justice datasets, applying strong SQL and data analysis skills to identify trends, solve problems and produce meaningful insights. This includes leading analytical projects from scoping to delivery, tackling complex data problems, and working with large datasets using platforms such as Google BigQuery.

The role also involves exercising sound judgement, working independently to resolve analytical challenges, communicating findings in clear, tailored formats for both technical and non-technical audiences, mentoring junior analysts, contributing to the development of analytical tools and methods, and ensuring all work complies with strict privacy, security, and governance requirements.

You will join BOCSAR’s collaborative, high-performing team of analysts and researchers who value transparency, rigour,

and the practical impact of their work. The environment is supportive yet intellectually challenging, with open knowledge-sharing, peer review, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The team operates flexibly, with hybrid work options, and fosters an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives are respected and contributions are recognised. There’s a strong focus on both professional development and producing work that directly benefits the NSW community.

What we’re looking for

- Is an experienced data professional with solid SQL and data analysis skills, and a proven ability to work with complex datasets to produce accurate, high-quality analysis.
- Holds tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as statistics, computer science, engineering, economics or criminology, or has equivalent experience.
- Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exercises sound judgement, and can work independently to investigate complex questions and develop practical solutions.
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills, an understanding of data governance, and the ability to work collaboratively, share knowledge and manage competing priorities.
- Ideally has experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Google BigQuery. Experience working with justice-related data or policy is also highly regarded.

We focus on hiring people who share our commitment and goals of inclusion, collaboration, adaptability, courage and integrity. If you meet the essential requirements and the role resonates with you, we welcome you to apply.

What We Offer

- A challenging and rewarding career
- Flexible, autonomous work environment
- Competitive pay and conditions
- Training and development opportunities to build and maintain capabilities
- Health & Wellbeing and Employee Assistance Programs.
