The Opportunity

We're partnering with a highly respected Australian media organisation that plays an important role in the country's news and information landscape. With a strong reputation, collaborative culture and significant investment in technology underway, the organisation is entering an exciting period of transformation.

We are seeking an experienced Chief Technology Officer to modernise critical platforms, lead its technology function and help shape the future of digital journalism and information delivery.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll influence technology strategy, lead an established team and deliver a substantial program of change.

The RoleYou'll take ownership of technology strategy, operations and delivery, balancing the reliability of business-critical systems with opportunities to innovate.

Key responsibilities include:

- Technology leadership: Develop and execute a technology roadmap aligned with business and editorial objectives.
- Digital transformation: Modernise core platforms, cloud infrastructure, applications and digital services.
- Engineering and architecture: Lead software engineering, systems integration and technology architecture.
- Data and AI: Unlock opportunities through analytics, intelligent automation and responsible AI adoption.
- Cybersecurity and governance: Ensure operational resilience, information security and effective technology risk management.
- People and partnerships:



Lead a collaborative internal team and manage strategic technology and delivery partners.
- Executive engagement: Work closely with editorial, product and commercial leaders to ensure technology enables the broader organisation.

About You:

You're an accomplished technology executive who combines strategic thinking, technical credibility and commercial judgement.

Ideally, you'll bring:

- Proven experience as a CTO, CIO, Head of Technology or equivalent senior technology leader.
- A background in media, journalism, digital publishing, content platforms or information services.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise IT, software engineering, cloud, cybersecurity and architecture.
- Experience delivering complex digital transformation while maintaining business-critical operations.
- An understanding of how data, analytics and AI can improve digital products and content workflows.
- Commercial experience managing technology budgets, vendors and outsourced delivery partners.
- The ability to influence executive teams and boards while building trusted relationships across the business.

Media or journalism experience is highly desirable, although exceptional leaders from adjacent digital, SaaS and data-driven businesses are encouraged to apply.
