Key responsibilities

- Prepare and cook a wide range of authentic Cantonese, Malaysian, Thai and Chinese dishes to Oriental Jade’s signature standards.
- Develop daily specials and contribute creative ideas to seasonal menu updates.
- Supervise and mentor kitchen team members, ensuring smooth daily operations.
- Oversee food preparation, portion control and presentation for dine-in, takeaway and delivery orders.
- Monitor and maintain food quality, freshness, and consistency at all times.
- Ensure all food is prepared in line with food safety and hygiene regulations.




- Manage stock levels, order supplies, and minimise food wastage.
- Collaborate closely with front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate service.
- Train new kitchen staff in proper techniques and restaurant standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment in the kitchen.
- Adapt traditional recipes to meet customer dietary requirements and preferences.
- Handle high-volume service periods with efficiency and attention to detail.
- Assist with menu costing and inventory control.
- Respond to customer feedback regarding food quality or presentation.
- Uphold Oriental Jade Morwell’s reputation for exceptional Asian cuisine and customer service.

Qualifications and skills

- Proven experience as a Chef in a busy commercial kitchen, ideally with a focus on Asian cuisine
- Formal culinary qualification or Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent) required
- Sound knowledge of Cantonese, Malaysian, and Thai cooking techniques and ingredients
- Ability to manage kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating to a high standard
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and allergen management practices
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as rostered
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
