The Role

The role is responsible for managing the domestic and international SMA rebalance processes by ensuring proposed trading activity is accurately analysed and validated. Once validated, the trades are allocated and sent to the appropriate brokers for execution.

The team operates in a time-sensitive environment, with the morning SMA rebalance period being a critical part of the daily process. You’ll be the go-to person for resolving complex SMA, trading and reconciliation issues with investment managers, brokers, custodians and internal teams. You’ll also make sure trades settle on time and SMA corporate action elections are actioned, working with our Corporate Actions team.

This role could be the right fit for you if:

- You have a strong, demonstrable understanding of financial markets and how SMAs work across their lifecycle
- You have reviewed orders before execution in a dealing, portfolio implementation or rebalancing role
- You have experience with the IRESS IPS portfolio management system
- You’re confident owning and resolving complex issues across multiple external parties
- You’ve had experience coaching and leading an operations team

Day to day

- Manage the SMA rebalance pre-trade validation process




- Get to the root cause of exceptions, breaks, cash, positions, restrictions and unusual trading activity
- Authorise or challenge trades before they are released to brokers for execution
- Monitor broker best execution to deliver good trading outcomes for clients
- Coordinate resolution of complex issues with investment managers, brokers, custodians and internal teams
- Ensure trades settle on time and corporate action notifications and SMA elections are actioned with registries and custodians, working with our Corporate Actions team
- Lead a small team
