What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Stonemason to join our construction team. The successful applicant will work with stone and masonry materials to construct, install, repair and maintain stonework on residential and commercial projects. The role involves interpreting plans and specifications, measuring and setting out work, selecting and preparing materials, and cutting, shaping and installing stone to the required dimensions, alignment and finish. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with project managers, supervisors and other trades to deliver quality work safely and within project timeframes.

Key Responsibilities

• Study plans, drawings and specifications to determine stone types, quantities, dimensions and installation methods.

• Measure, mark out and prepare work areas and surfaces before commencing stonework.

• Select, cut, shape, dress, polish and finish stone blocks, slabs and other masonry materials using suitable machinery and hand tools.

• Prepare and apply mortar, grout,



adhesives or other bonding materials as appropriate, and install stonework with accurate levels, alignment and joints.

• Construct and install stone walls, cladding, paving and architectural stone features in accordance with project specifications.

• Repair, restore and maintain existing stone and masonry structures, including replacing damaged materials where required.

• Inspect completed work, maintain tools and equipment, and keep the work area clean and organised.

• Follow workplace health and safety procedures, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and coordinate with the project team to meet quality and schedule requirements.

Requirements

• Demonstrated practical experience working as a Stonemason or in a closely related stone masonry trade.

• Ability to interpret construction plans and technical drawings, take accurate measurements and set out work.

• Sound knowledge of stone materials, cutting and shaping techniques, and stone installation methods.

• Competence in using stone-cutting machinery, power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.

• A relevant trade qualification, such as Certificate III in Stonemasonry, or equivalent demonstrated skills and experience.

• Valuable attention to detail, reliability and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and a commitment to maintaining a safe worksite.
