About the role

Ready for the biggest role of your career? Clove is an app that plans and shops your groceries based on your health goals and budget. You load in your saved recipes, tell us your goals, and Clove builds the meal plan, the grocery list and the cart - then gets it delivered.

We're a small team with strong design and front end depth behind an award-winning app, and a pinch in backend. That's you. You'll build the systems behind our two biggest bets: an agentic grocery flow and a global chat surface.

The bar is real: it doesn't count until the groceries are in the fridge. You'll work directly with the founders and ship to production used by every Clove user in Australia, with the US rollout underway.

The role

- Own the backend of Clove's agentic grocery flow - the services that turn a household's recipe library, health goals and budget into a meal plan, a grocery list and a delivered cart.
- Build the shopper integrations. Clove finds the best deals and gets groceries delivered through retail and delivery partners, and you'll make those connections reliable at scale.
- Make chat and search fast. They're known blockers for the product right now, and speed is part of the experience you're building.
- Personalise every plan. Household, pantry,



goals and budget data drive each shop - you'll build the systems that make every suggestion feel made for you.
- Keep the bar high. Reliability, observability and data quality are part of the job, not an afterthought.
- Stay close to users. You'll hear support and customer feedback firsthand, and bring it back into what we build.

About you

- You build backend systems for consumer products, with work in production you can point to.
- You're genuinely interested in agentic systems - you've worked with LLMs and can build the systems around them, not just call an API.
- You make pragmatic architecture calls in a fast-paced environment, working autonomously and embracing ambiguity - you know when to keep it simple and when to go deep.
- You communicate technical decisions clearly, bringing day-to-day clarity for the team.
- You have a low ego and are impact driven, setting the tone for Clove's engineering discipline as we grow.
