Matthew Hoyle Financial Markets is seeking a C++ Software Engineer to help develop and support its in-house electronic trading platform. This opportunity is suited to an engineer who values high-quality software, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and is interested in building reliable, efficient systems in a financial markets environment.
About The Company
Matthew Hoyle Financial Markets operates in the financial markets sector, where dependable technology and effective collaboration are essential to supporting trading activity. The company’s in-house electronic trading system is supported by a global software development team working alongside colleagues across trading, quantitative research, and infrastructure. This multidisciplinary environment brings together technical and market expertise to maintain existing capabilities and deliver improvements to the platform.
About The Role
As a member of the global software development team, you will enhance, maintain, and support the company’s electronic trading system. You will work on software that must perform efficiently and reliably, contributing both to day-to-day platform development and to longer-term technical decisions. The role involves close engagement with Traders, Quants, and Infrastructure personnel, so clear communication and an appreciation of different perspectives are important.
You will help shape solutions designed for low latency, scalability, efficiency, and reliability.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent skilled experience.
- A strong, demonstrable track record of programming in C++.
- Practical experience developing on Linux using the GCC toolchain.
- Experience profiling software and optimizing algorithms for performance.
- Knowledge of network programming, multithreaded programming, and inter-process communication.
- Experience working with distributed architecture systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality code.
- A collaborative, personable approach, combined with self-motivation, creativity, and the ability to deliver work on time.
Experience in financial markets is an advantage, particularly familiarity with market data feeds, order execution APIs, or derivatives trading. Additional desirable experience includes programming in C or Python, working with messaging middleware, and developing specialist low-latency solutions.
Responsibilities
- Enhance, maintain, and support the company’s in-house electronic trading platform.
- Develop and improve software components with attention to performance, stability, and maintainability.
- Profile applications and optimize algorithms to identify and address performance bottlenecks.
- Apply sound practices when developing networked, multithreaded, and distributed software.
- Collaborate with fellow software developers and engage with Traders, Quants, and Infrastructure personnel to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Contribute to system architecture discussions and decisions, considering latency, scalability, efficiency, reliability, and operational needs.
- Communicate progress, technical considerations, and potential delivery risks clearly to relevant colleagues.
- Take ownership of assigned work and contribute to the quality and dependability of the trading system.
Benefits
This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to an in-house trading platform and work with colleagues across software development, trading, quantitative research, and infrastructure. You will tackle technically challenging problems involving performance, distributed systems, and reliability, while developing your understanding of electronic trading technology. The collaborative global team environment provides opportunities to share expertise, take part in meaningful engineering discussions, and build experience with systems used in financial markets.
Equal Opportunity
Matthew Hoyle Financial Markets is committed to a fair and respectful recruitment process. Applicants should be considered on their relevant qualifications, skills, experience, and ability to perform the role.
