The Role
We're looking for an experienced Datacentre Lead to supplement a Defence digital integration team in Canberra.
This is primarily a leadership role: you'll manage and direct the small team that looks after the datacentre environments, and set the technical direction for capacity planning, patch management, security management and the datacentre's future. The datacentre provides hosting space for systems under test and project work.
The role needs a mix of people management, hands-on technical skill, planning, innovation and communication. As a technical expert in a small team, you'll also help design deployable systems and network integration solutions, and review project design documents and advise on integration across system interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the installation, configuration, administration and operation of datacentre infrastructure across test, development and production environments
- Install, integrate and administer Windows and Linux servers and specialist applications
- Administer virtualised infrastructure,
shared storage and associated datacentre platforms
- Contribute to datacentre and local area network design, including network segmentation and security controls
- Review and advise on system and application integration solutions
- Develop and maintain system designs, implementation documentation, standard operating procedures and configuration records
- Provide second- and third-line technical support for complex datacentre technologies
- Manage and direct the datacentre team, including task allocation, technical guidance and reporting, and oversee capacity and patch planning
- Train and mentor technical personnel, and advise on system readiness, integration risks and security requirements
Required
- Experience leading the administration, integration and sustainment of complex enterprise datacentre environments, including directing other ICT personnel
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Experience with enterprise virtualisation (VMware vSphere or equivalent) and shared storage platforms
- Strong understanding of physical and software-defined networking, including segmentation and security zones
- Experience integrating enterprise applications and infrastructure in secured environments with no direct internet connectivity
- Experience implementing and maintaining security controls aligned with the Information Security Manual and Essential Eight
- Experience producing system design, implementation and standard operating procedure documentation
- Experience providing second- and third-line technical support, including fault investigation and resolution
- Proven ability to operate as a technical lead and manage technical personnel, without direct technical oversight
Engagement Details
- Location: Symonston, Canberra, ACT
- Full-time onsite
- Some interstate travel may be required
- Extension options available
