About Pacific International Insurance

Pacific International Insurance has been helping Australians protect what matters for over 20 years. Backed by the global strength of Badger International, an insurance organisation with international interests, Pacific delivers trusted, quality insurance products across Australia and New Zealand, with full international endorsement. As an Australasian insurance underwriting company, Pacific offers a range of personal and business insurance solutions across various brands.

Pacific's business philosophy is to provide soft landings through all interactions with partners, customers, community, staff, and the broader industry, and this commitment sits at the core of every product we build and every service we deliver. This is a business that values analytical rigour, commercial integrity, and people who want to do meaningful work in a collaborative, high-output environment.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Product Specialist to join our Underwriting team. This role is responsible for managing and continuously improving Pacific's insurance product suite, leading product development, PDS reviews, competitor analysis and coordinating the implementation of product changes into systems, in shared accountability with the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).

You will work closely with distribution, claims, underwriting, compliance and actuarial teams to ensure Pacific's products remain competitive, compliant and aligned to the needs of customers and distribution partners.

If you have strong product knowledge in some of Pacific's lines, whether that is Travel, Pet, Motor, Property or Liability, and a real passion for getting policy wordings right and making a tangible difference to customer outcomes, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development and Management

- Lead the development and improvement of Pacific's insurance products across all product lines, moving from reactive to strategically planned product development.
- Conduct regular PDS reviews to ensure product documentation is accurate, compliant, and reflects current market and regulatory expectations.
- Monitor competitor products and market developments, conducting structured competitor product comparisons to identify opportunities for product improvement and differentiation.
- Work with cross-functional teams (including claims, distribution, underwriting, reinsurance, legal, finance and customer service)

to design, test, and co-create product changes.
- Negotiate and drive product changes with binder partners and product owners, building constructive relationships to achieve compliant and commercially sound product outcomes.
- Maintain a product development roadmap aligned to Pacific's strategic objectives and partner requirements.
- Coordinate the implementation of product changes with the various internal functions.

Compliance and Regulatory Obligations

- Share accountability with the CUO for compliance with Product Design and Distribution Obligations (DDO) and Target Market Determinations (TMDs).
- Own the TMD monitoring framework, conducting regular reviews of TMDs to ensure they remain consistent with customer commitments and product obligations, using metrics and analysis provided by the actuarial team.
- Monitor distribution outcomes to ensure incidents outside the target market are minimised, promptly identified, escalated, and remediated in accordance with regulatory obligations and internal governance standards.
- Manage PDS and product governance documentation to ensure alignment with ASIC requirements and internal standards.
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes affecting product design and distribution, and adapt product frameworks accordingly.
- Prepare and present product compliance reports to the CUO and relevant governance bodies.
- Review product related content including promotional material and website for compliance.

Customer and Claims Insights

- Data mine complaints and declined claims data to identify patterns and areas for product improvement.
- Liaise with the claims team to understand emerging claims trends and their product design implications.
- Translate customer and partner feedback into actionable product development insights.
- Monitor customer outcomes data to ensure products are delivering fair value and meeting TMD obligations.

Relationship and Communication

- Act as a product subject matter expert for distribution partners, account managers, and internal stakeholders.

- Clarify the intent of product wordings and respond to queries from account managers, the claims function, and customer service, ensuring consistent and accurate interpretation of policy terms.
- Present product development proposals, competitor insights, and compliance updates to senior management and governance forums.
- Collaborate with the underwriting and actuarial teams to ensure product changes are technically sound and appropriately priced.
- Liaise with legal or compliance advisors on product documentation and regulatory matters as required.
- Support the onboarding of new distribution partners by providing product training and documentation.
- Engage with the broader insurance community and attend relevant industry events, with a focus on product compliance, regulatory developments, and emerging market trends.2

About you

- Degree in Business, Law, Finance, Insurance, or a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in insurance product management, claims, product development, or a product compliance role within the Australian insurance market and strong hands-on product knowledge of one of Pacific's lines (Travel, Pet, Motor, Property or Liability) combined with a genuine passion for product wordings and customer outcomes.
- Understanding of the Australian regulatory environment, including DDO, TMD obligations, ASIC product governance requirements, and APRA's CPS 230 operational risk framework.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience drafting or reviewing product documentation.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret claims, complaints, and distribution data to inform product decisions.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to shape the product suite of a growing, internationally backed insurance business, working at the intersection of product, underwriting, compliance and customer outcomes. You will work in a cooperative environment where product knowledge and a genuine drive to improve wordings and customer outcomes matter as much as technical experience.

If this sounds like your next move, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now with your CV and a brief cover letter telling us why this role is the right fit.
