You’re a great insurance Estimator/Assessor. You’re technically minded, have an excellent eye for detail and genuinely enjoy the investigative side of your work. You like getting out on-site, climbing a ladder to get a proper look, figuring out what’s happened, putting together accurate scopes & reports and seeing jobs progress.
You’re also an incredibly organised & autonomous person. You manage your own workload, take pride in getting things done properly and don’t need someone constantly looking over your shoulder. About half the role is scopes and reports, and you don’t mind the admin side. You love being trusted to do your job and having the freedom to manage your own time.
Perhaps you’ve been working for a Big Builder and you’re burnt out/overworked and you’re now looking for a role where you can have the best of both worlds - good money, interesting work and plenty of autonomy, but also a genuinely great team, a down-to-earth boss and flexibility around your personal life.
The role
This role is Insurance Building Estimator/Assessor for The Blue Heeler Group, a family-owned insurance building company based in Loganholme/Brisbane. They specialise in insurance repairs, building restoration and emergency make-safes, working across everything from storm & water damage through to fire and mould restoration.
You’ll look after:
· Site inspections. Work out the cause of the damage, and what’s new versus old wear. The insurer only pays for what’s event related.
· Scopes of works and quotes. Accurate, competitive quotes the supervisors can actually deliver. A $1,000 job quoted at $500 helps nobody.
· Reports. Label your photos, put them in the right order and tell the story clearly. These reports get audited later, so the insurers want proper detail.
· Your workload. About 8 to 9 scopes a week,
so 2 to 3 a day on your site days. You’ll win about 80% of what you quote.
· Client KPIs. A live dashboard shows what’s outstanding.
It’s a great role for someone who enjoys variety. You’ll be given plenty of autonomy to manage your workload, with realistic expectations and a management team who genuinely trust positive people to get on with their jobs. Storm season is full-on, with long days, and you’ll climb ladders and look into roof cavities, so you need to be comfortable with heights.
The team and culture
But what really makes this opportunity special is the company & team.
It’s a small, family-run team of about 10 who genuinely like working together. The owner is a South African straight shooter, and the team is a mix of people from all over Australia and the world. The vibe is relaxed, but the work is not. People look out for each other and still get the job done.
· Friday lunches shouted by the boss, plus regular coffee runs
· Quarterly nights out and a big Christmas party every year (last year was a yacht)
You’ll know everyone, and they’ll know you.
Flexibility and reward
They also genuinely understand that you have a life outside work. Need to leave early for your kid’s school event? Have something important happening at home? They’re flexible and happy to work around things like that.
It’s a give-and-take environment where you’re trusted to manage your responsibilities without someone counting every minute.
And they genuinely reward great performance. Two of their supervisors recently received pay rises within six months, without even asking. The business recognised their contribution and rewarded them for it.
The package and details
· $100k to $110k + super + company car (or vehicle allowance), with opportunities for salary growth based on performance
· Location: based around Loganholme, with a mix of site visits, office time and some flexibility to work from home
· Hours: full-time, 38 hours per week
You’ll need:
· Insurance building experience. Insurance repair or assessing experience is what we’re after, as there’s little time for training. A builder, carpenter or building estimator with solid computer skills is welcome too.
· Computer skills. You can type, you know your way around Excel and you pick up computer systems quickly. Prime and Endata software experience is a big plus.
· Strong written English and a sharp eye for detail
· A driver’s licence
· Confidence and resilience. You can handle straight talk, and when you get feedback you actually change what you do.
· Comfort on ladders and at heights - as this will be part of your work multiple times a week
New to insurance work or been in it for years, either is fine as long as you have solid building knowledge. If you’ve got something to prove and the work ethic to back it up, we want to hear from you. You’ll sit alongside an experienced estimator at the start, with one-on-one training on the systems.
If you’re good at what you do and want to work somewhere that genuinely values you, pays you well and gives you the freedom to get on with your job, we’d love to hear from you.
