About the role

Medley Cafe & Restaurant is seeking an experienced, commercially minded Restaurant & Events Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation while helping drive the next stage of Medley's growth. This is a hands-on leadership role with two equally important priorities: running a consistent, high-performing hospitality operation and developing a stronger, more profitable functions and events business. The successful candidate will lead from the floor, set clear standards for the team, deliver an excellent guest experience and actively convert business opportunities into bookings and revenue.

Key responsibilities

- Oversee daily front-of-house operations and coordinate effectively with the kitchen to deliver smooth, consistent service.

- Maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, food and beverage service, opening and closing procedures, and venue readiness.

- Be visible and hands-on during service, supporting the team and stepping in to resolve operational issues.

- Monitor guest feedback, respond to complaints professionally and implement improvements to the customer experience.

- Ensure venue practices align with applicable workplace health and safety, food safety, liquor licensing and other regulatory requirements.

- Lead, coach and develop front-of-house and relevant operational team members.

- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management and retention.

- Prepare and manage rosters in line with forecast trade, event requirements, employee availability and budget.

- Manage the functions and events pipeline from initial enquiry through proposal,



follow-up, booking, planning, delivery and post-event review.

- Respond promptly and professionally to function enquiries and prepare tailored proposals, packages, run sheets and event plans.

About you

- Demonstrated experience in a Restaurant Manager, Venue Manager, Hospitality Operations Manager or comparable senior hospitality role.

- Robust practical knowledge of restaurant and front-of-house operations, service standards and team leadership.

- Experience managing private functions, corporate events or other event-based hospitality is highly desirable.

- Commercial understanding of sales, wage costs, rostering, stock control and venue profitability.

- Confident communication, negotiation, organisation and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to manage competing priorities, remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.

- A proactive, accountable and solutions-focused approach, with a genuine commitment to hospitality.

- Comfort using POS, reservation, rostering, email and common business software. Experience with event enquiry and booking platforms is an advantage.

- Energetic, organised and commercially aware approach with the ability to take ownership and lead by example.
