The opportunity
Aldermane is seeking applications from experienced strategy and capability advisers for a permanent Senior Manager role, based in Canberra ACT. You will lead complex advisory work from diagnosis through to implementation, giving senior decision-makers analysis and recommendations they can act on.
The role suits an experienced Government consultant (Senior Manager level, with between 5-10 years' experience) who works with considerable autonomy, is comfortable with ambiguity and holds their own work to a high standard. Responsibility for client development can follow as your seniority grows.
About Aldermane
Aldermane is a full-service project design and delivery firm headquartered in Canberra. We bring together legal, commercial and procurement, strategy, project management and technical expertise, primarily for Government clients and major programs.
Our purpose is to contribute to the security and prosperity of all Australians. Our approach is simple: good people, doing positive work. If this sounds like you, we'd like you to join our team.
What you will do
This role will involve supporting Defence capability planning and development through the application of the Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) framework. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will help translate strategic and operational needs into informed capability and investment decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
Analyse capability and requirements
- Lead Defence capability needs, gap and impact analyses across the elements that make up a capability, particularly major systems, infrastructure and industry, to support strategic, operational and business objectives.
- Elicit, analyse, document and manage business, stakeholder, functional and non-functional requirements, and resolve the issues and inconsistencies that arise.
- Develop and maintain capability assessments, roadmaps, requirements documentation, process maps and operating models to the standards and frameworks that apply.
- Identify and analyse dependencies, constraints, risks and opportunities, and escalate matters with wider strategic or organisational consequences.
Improve processes and operating models
- Analyse current and future-state processes, operating models and information flows, and recommend practical improvements.
- Assess how proposed initiatives will affect processes, systems, stakeholders and capability arrangements, including the workforce and organisational change they require.
Support decisions and realise benefits
- Run options analysis that weighs cost, benefit, risk, dependencies and suitability.
- Develop business cases, investment proposals, governance papers and executive briefs that are accurate, concise and evidence-based.
- Build benefits realisation plans, monitor results and recommend corrective action.
Engage stakeholders
- Plan and facilitate interviews, workshops, working groups and requirements sessions, and reconcile differing stakeholder views.
- Build productive relationships across Government and industry, and present findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Report, assure and lead
- Analyse qualitative and quantitative information, including where it is incomplete, and turn it into reports, dashboards and performance measures.
- Keep evidence, traceability and quality assurance in place so that every recommendation can be audited.
- Support planning, integration and assurance activity, interpreting the governance frameworks that apply and building assurance findings into your work.
- Plan and deliver engagements to time, cost and quality targets, and manage risks,
issues and dependencies within your remit.
- Review colleagues' work, mentor them and share knowledge across a multidisciplinary team.
What you will bring
- Substantial experience leading complex capability, business or strategic analysis.
- A record of Defence capability needs, gap or impact analysis, or comparable work, on complex programs.
- Experience eliciting and managing complex requirements across stakeholder groups with competing priorities.
- Analysis and documentation of processes and operating models to recognised standards.
- Experience preparing options analyses, business cases and benefits realisation plans for senior decision-makers.
- Skill in facilitating workshops and influencing senior stakeholders, and in presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Robust writing for executive audiences, with analysis that is evidence-based and traceable.
- Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, and sound judgement where information is incomplete.
- The ability to plan and deliver your own work, and to know when to decide and when to escalate.
Highly regarded
- Capability analysis in Defence or a comparable major-systems environment, including familiarity with Defence capability and governance frameworks.
- Advisory experience across Government and large private-sector organisations.
- Experience in workforce, organisational design or change work.
Mandatory
- An AGSVA NV1 or higher Australian Government security clearance. Applicants who do not have a minimum NV1 clearance will not be considered.
