About The Company
Ignition Advice is a financial technology company building a platform for financial advice. As the company grows, it is expanding its engineering team to support more tier-one financial institutions across Australia, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Its platform is built around microservices and event-driven architecture, with research and development embedded in the way the team works. Ignition values engineering rigour, thoughtful technical decisions, and delivering at pace without compromising quality.
About The Role
Ignition Advice is seeking an experienced software engineer to lead the development of capabilities across its core financial advice platform. You will contribute throughout the software lifecycle, from technical design and architecture discussions to implementation, testing, release, and ongoing improvement. Working closely with the Principal Engineer and colleagues across engineering, frontend, and client delivery, you will help build reliable services that support complex financial technology needs. This is an opportunity to contribute beyond feature delivery. You will help evolve engineering standards, explore modern approaches through research and development, and improve the systems and practices that enable the team to deliver safely. The role suits an engineer who combines strong hands-on development skills with sound judgement, curiosity, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Qualifications Applicants should bring 10 or more years of software development experience with C# and .
NET, including .
NET 6 or later. You should have practical experience designing and delivering microservices and event-driven systems,
including database-per-service approaches and polyglot data stores. Hands-on experience with AWS data services such as DynamoDB, OpenSearch, and Aurora Serverless with PostgreSQL is relevant to the role. You will also bring strong knowledge of REST and gRPC API design, software design patterns, and engineering best practices. Experience with Docker, third-party integrations, and containerised workloads is expected. You should understand observability through structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics, and apply security-conscious practices covering authentication, authorisation, and secure coding. Robust capability in automated testing across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels is important, as is experience with CI/CD pipelines and continuous delivery. Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket, along with experience working in Agile or Scrum teams, will help you collaborate effectively. Experience with test-driven development and trunk-based development is also valuable. Responsibilities You will lead development of recent platform features from design through delivery and contribute to architecture decisions in partnership with the Principal Engineer. You will design, implement, test, and improve services within the microservices and event-driven platform, ensuring that quality,
security, and maintainability are considered throughout development. Your responsibilities will include owning automated testing as part of your daily workflow, reviewing code, and helping raise the quality of the codebase. You will contribute to engineering standards and design patterns, support CI/CD pipeline and platform improvements, and participate in incident response when needed. You will also share knowledge, informally mentor colleagues, and work with frontend and client delivery teams to coordinate integrations. The role may involve exploring a technical approach through a proof of concept or research spike, as well as independently investigating complex engineering challenges. Benefits This role offers the opportunity to work on meaningful financial technology challenges as Ignition Advice grows its platform and customer reach. You will contribute to architectural decisions, engage in research and development, and collaborate with experienced engineering colleagues. The team’s emphasis on continuous delivery, engineering rigour, and knowledge sharing provides scope to deepen your technical impact while helping shape how the platform evolves. Specific employment benefits and working arrangements can be discussed during the recruitment process. Equal Opportunity Ignition Advice is committed to fair and inclusive recruitment. Applicants will be considered on their skills, experience, and suitability for the role. The company welcomes candidates from different backgrounds and aims to provide a respectful hiring process free from unlawful discrimination.
