Design work you can stand behind and projects you actually own.
We’re growing our piping team and looking for an engineer who can run pipe stress analysis independently and wants to work on real building projects.
You’ll carry pipe stress packages from design basis through to a checked calc report. Most of the work is piping on prefabricated risers and frames in multi-storey buildings.
About KUSCH
At KUSCH, we design engineering solutions that make a real impact for our clients, our team and the broader community. We're known for being reliable and expert, but we also bring curiosity and a slightly unconventional edge to every challenge we take on.
We combine advanced analytics and research with a practical, people-first approach to design. We pride ourselves on delivering solutions that are safe, economical and built for the real world.
Collaboration and innovation sit at the heart of everything we do. If you're looking for a place where your ideas are heard, your growth is supported and your contributions are valued, you've found it.
We're also proud of the culture we've built. In our 2026 Employee Engagement Survey, KUSCH achieved an 89.5% employee engagement score and 97% favourable overall employee satisfaction.
About the role
This is a hands-on role where you'll take ownership of your work, contribute practical ideas and work closely with an experienced engineering team. Specifically, you'll:
- Build and run pipe stress models in Bentley AutoPIPE to ASME B31.3 (with reference to AS 4041)
- Check sustained, expansion and occasional load cases, including wind and seismic
- Apply SIFs and flexibility factors, including B31J, at fittings and branches
- Check pressure design and minimum wall thickness
- Design and locate supports, guides and anchors, and size spring hangers where needed
- Assess expansion joints, bellows, flexible couplings and thrust restraint
- Account for building movements (core shortening, interstorey drift) in the model
- Check equipment nozzle loads against vendor or standard allowables
- Issue loads back to the structural engineer and coordinate with the BIM team
- Write calc reports to the KUSCH template and complete the Pipe Design QA Sheet before each issue
- Contribute to improving how we design and deliver work
- Support junior team members as needed
- Champion our values of Trust, People-first, Humility, Solution-focused and Fun in everything you do
What you'll bring
- 2–5 years’ experience in pipe stress analysis or piping design
- A degree in mechanical, civil or structural engineering
- Hands-on AutoPIPE experience, with a good grasp of ASME B31.3 stress categories and allowables
- Able to sanity-check model results by hand, not just trust the software
- Clear written communication,
with the discipline to document assumptions
- Comfortable working to deadlines and taking review comments from a certifier or checker
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage your time and priorities across multiple projects
- A dependable approach and willingness to take ownership of your work
- Willingness to travel to site for inspections and investigations
- Australian working rights
Bonus points for
- Experience with SPACE GASS, or other structural analysis software, for support and frame design
- Familiarity with AS 4100, AS 1170 and AS 5216 for supports and anchors
- Experience with Victaulic or similar flexible coupling systems
- Progress towards CPEng/RPEng registration or Engineers Australia membership
What we offer
- Be part of a highly engaged team, with an 89.5% employee engagement score and 97% favourable overall employee satisfaction in our 2026 Employee Engagement Survey
- A genuinely interesting mix of projects
- Real ownership without unnecessary layers
- A team that values good engineering over ego
- Hybrid working with flexibility
- Competitive salary aligned with experience
- Chill Days: two additional paid leave days each year to volunteer, reset or do your thing
- Ongoing professional development and support towards professional registration
- The chance to grow with the business
- An Employee Share Plan so you can share in the growth you help create
- Genuine scope to step into greater responsibility over time and help shape how we work
