Are you an innovative, culturally responsive teacher who works best as part of a dynamic team? Are you passionate about improving equity of outcomes for EALD students across Western Australia? We are seeking to establish a pool of English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
The Role
The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) serves students across Western Australia and is responsive to the needs of both Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal EALD learners across a diverse range of contexts. Working at SIDE provides unique and innovative opportunities to strengthen equity and outcomes for EALD students across the state. The SIDE EALD Outreach Program provides intensive English language support for recently arrived regional primary and secondary students who are unable to access metropolitan Intensive English Centres (IEC). The classes are designed to support recently arrived EALD students in the Beginning or Emerging phases of acquiring Standard Australian English and are intended to complement school-based EALD support across Learning Areas. All Foundation, General and ATAR EALD courses for senior secondary CALD and Aboriginal EALD students are offered by SIDE. We are seeking highly skilled and enthusiastic primary and secondary teachers with the capacity to develop and deliver rigorous and engaging EALD blended learning programs suited to the online distance education context. This includes online teaching and occasional visits to the students and schools. You will ideally contribute to the development and delivery of inclusive,
culturally and linguistically responsive teaching programs, and be required to work closely with staff in partner schools, students, families, local communities, SIDE staff and other stakeholders. Your role may include providing advice and guidance to school leaders and teachers at partner schools regarding EALD support and making consistent judgements with the EALD Progress Map. To be suitable for this role, you should have relevant EALD qualifications and expertise and recent classroom experience in an EALD setting. Applicants with experience in facilitating Senior Secondary WACE EALD courses, including ATAR EALD, will be highly regarded. High level communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build mutually respectful, collaborative relationships with students, their parents and partner schools are foundational requirements of this role. If you are motivated by improving equity for EALD students, co-leading innovative school and system initiatives in a vibrant team setting, and learning and immersing yourself in the online teaching and learning space, this could be a role for you.
School of Isolated and Distance Education SIDE is a cutting-edge online school that provides a high level of education to children who need additional flexibility. We play a critical role within the Western Australian education system, supporting system needs and priorities.
Our vision is to enhance and expand learning opportunities for Western Australian students, regardless of their circumstances, through high quality, inclusive and culturally responsive educational programs in a blended learning environment, guided by our values of Connection, Courage, Equity, Creativity and Compassion. As a teacher with SIDE, you will have the opportunity to reach out and make a difference to students throughout Western Australia, delivering high-quality online and blended education programs to suit the varying contexts and needs of our students. Visits are planned in negotiation with staff, and at times may include short-term stays in regional and remote locations.
