Morley Canvas
Bayswater
Lead the floor. Grow with the business. Build a career for the long term.
Morley Canvas has been making canvas products in WA for more than 40 years, and the next chapter is under way. We are looking for a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead our workshop team of 11 machinists, cutters and sewers, and to grow with us.
This role is for a leading hand, team leader or supervisor who wants more than their next job: a long-term career, a real say in how the workshop runs, and the chance to learn the business alongside the General Manager.
About Morley Canvas
Morley Canvas started in 1984 as a family business repairing canvas and PVC in Perth. More than 40 years on, it is still family-owned, with two WA workshops making awnings, blinds, shade sails, ute canopies, caravan and camping canvas, marine trim, and commercial and mining products. Most work is measured, quoted and made to order for each client, and much of it comes through referral.
The business is growing and investing in automation and digital systems across the customer journey, from first enquiry through to installation. There are exciting times ahead, and the person in this role will help shape how the workshop runs in the years to come.
The role
- Lead the team on the floor each day: rosters, daily priorities, and on-the-job coaching.
- Set the day’s work with the General Manager and allocate cutting, machine time and labour to the plan.
- Keep jobs moving when a rush order lands, material is late or a specification changes, and bring changes to the schedule to the General Manager.
- Check quality before each job moves on,
and line up finished jobs for dispatch and installation.
- Maintain WHS standards on the floor.
- Help bring new digital systems onto the floor and support the team to use them well.
Working with the General Manager
You will report to the General Manager and work closely together every day. This is a big part of the opportunity: you will learn how the business runs from the person who leads it, contribute your ideas on how the workshop can work better, and have a say as new systems and processes come in. The General Manager will support you through a structured 90-day onboarding plan.
Your growth path
- Start: lead the team on the floor and settle into the role with the General Manager's support.
- Build: take on scheduling and purchasing as your confidence grows.
- Step up: once agreed milestones are met, the role steps up to Factory Manager with a salary review [to confirm].
- Longer term: as the business grows, general management could be on the cards for the right person.
What you bring
Essential
- Current or recent experience as a leading hand, team leader or supervisor in a manufacturing workplace where product is made on site.
- Experience leading a small team on the floor and getting daily work out to deadlines.
- A hands-on approach: comfortable working alongside the team, not leading from an office.
- An interest in building a long-term career with a growing family business, and in learning new systems as they come in.
- Working knowledge of WHS and confidence using digital scheduling or workforce tools.
- A current C class WA driver’s licence and the ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.
Desirable
- Experience in canvas, textiles, upholstery, marine trim, awnings, signage or similar made-to-order work.
- Some exposure to scheduling, purchasing, stock control or lean manufacturing.
