Flexible Consulting | Veterans & Compensation Claims | Comprehensive Practice Support

An opportunity is available for experienced Orthopaedic Surgeons to undertake independent medicolegal assessments and reporting for current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.

My client is an established specialist medical group expanding its medicolegal services, supporting veterans and individuals navigating injury, impairment and compensation claims.

This opportunity offers an attractive additional income stream alongside your existing clinical practice, with flexible consulting arrangements, competitive fixed-fee remuneration and comprehensive administrative and quality assurance support.

The Opportunity

- $2,000+ per standard report, with an indicative three-day turnaround

- Additional $1,000 for urgent reports, with a 24-hour turnaround

- Flexible consulting arrangements around existing clinical commitments

- Independent assessments relating to DVA claims, service-related injuries and compensation matters

- Comprehensive administrative, referral management and quality assurance support

- Chance to establish an ongoing medicolegal caseload

The Role

You will undertake independent specialist assessments and prepare comprehensive, evidence-based medicolegal reports relating to orthopaedic injuries, impairment and compensation claims.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Conducting independent orthopaedic assessments

- Reviewing relevant medical histories, clinical records and supporting documentation

- Preparing detailed medicolegal reports addressing referral questions

- Assessing injury,

causation, functional limitations and permanent impairment where required

- Undertaking impairment assessments in accordance with applicable guidelines

- Responding to quality assurance queries or requests for clarification as required

Comprehensive Practice Support

Our client manages the operational and administrative requirements throughout the assessment process, allowing specialists to focus on their clinical expertise.

Support includes:

- Referral management and appointment coordination

- Liaison with lawyers and relevant stakeholders

- Administrative and technology support

- Quality assurance and report review processes

- Management of stakeholder queries and expectations

About You

We are seeking qualified Orthopaedic Surgeons who:

- Hold current specialist registration with AHPRA

- Have FRACS (Orthopaedic Surgery) or an equivalent recognised specialist qualification

- Demonstrate strong clinical assessment and report-writing skills

- Have an interest in independent medicolegal assessments and impairment reporting

- Can provide objective, evidence-based specialist opinions

- Are comfortable working independently within agreed reporting timeframes

Previous medicolegal reporting experience and familiarity with permanent impairment assessments, including AMA guidelines where applicable, will be highly regarded but are not essential.

Whether you are interested in occasional assessments or developing a regular medicolegal caseload, flexible arrangements can be discussed to complement your existing clinical practice.
