Help protect Queensland's wildlife while building a career in the field
If you'd rather spend your working day outdoors than behind a desk, this could be the role for you.
Ecosure is looking for Wildlife Field Operatives to join our Rockhampton team, with both full-time and casual opportunities available.
You'll work across Central Queensland on practical wildlife management and environmental projects, helping protect native fauna while supporting responsible development, land management and conservation outcomes.
This is a genuinely hands‐on, field‐based role.
Depending on the project, you could be undertaking fauna surveys, supporting wildlife spotting and relocation, monitoring clearing activities, conducting pest animal management activities, collecting field data or working alongside clients and contractors on site.
You'll work across different locations and conditions, so we're looking for people who are practical, safety‐conscious, adaptable and genuinely enjoy being outdoors.
What you'll be doing
Your work may include:
Conducting fauna surveys, wildlife monitoring and habitat assessments
Supporting fauna spotting, handling and relocation activities
Undertaking pre-clearance surveys and monitoring active clearing operations
Assisting with pest animal monitoring and management programs
Identifying native fauna and recording wildlife observations
Collecting accurate field data using GPS and digital field systems
Operating and maintaining wildlife handling and field equipment
Working alongside clients, contractors, landholders and other project stakeholders
Completing field records, reports and project documentation
Working safely in regional and remote environments in accordance with project, environmental and animal welfare requirements.
The internal position description specifically includes pre-clearance surveys, monitoring active clearing operations, wildlife relocation, habitat assessment, pest animal management and fauna spotter‐catching services.
About you
You don't necessarily need to have followed one particular career path to succeed in this role.
We're interested in people with relevant field experience, strong practical capability and a genuine interest in wildlife and environmental management.
You'll ideally bring:
Experience in wildlife management, fauna handling, ecology, conservation, pest management or similar field‐based work
Knowledge of Australian native fauna and an interest in developing your species identification skills
Confidence working outdoors across uneven, remote and sometimes challenging terrain
Strong situational awareness and a safety‐first approach
Good observation, record‐keeping and data collection skills
The ability to work independently as well as part of a field team
Good communication skills and a qualified approach when working with clients and contractors
Willingness to travel and work away from home when projects require it
An open Australian driver's licence
A Construction White Card
Even better if you have
Any of the following would be advantageous:
Fauna spotter‐catcher or wildlife handling experience
Pest animal management experience
Firearms Licence (A/B)
4WD experience or certification
First Aid and CPR
Venomous snake handling certification
Strong fauna identification or habitat assessment skills
Experience using GPS, GIS or environmental field data systems
Qualifications or vocational training in ecology, conservation, ecosystem management, pest management or a related discipline.
These capabilities align with the desirable qualifications and experience in the current Ecosure position description.
