Location Profile

Rubicon Outdoor School is a Department of Education Residential Outdoor School working with Government secondary students. The school exists across two campuses. The Thornton Campus is located in the Rubicon Valley on the lands of the Taungurung People in the Murrindindi Shire. Our Nayook Campus is located between the borders of the Bunurong, Wurundjeri and Gunaikurnai People in the Baw Baw Shire. This role is based at our Thornton Campus.

The Grounds and Maintenance Support Officer provides support services in trade areas such as school grounds and building maintenance at our Thornton Campus. Working alongside the maintenance and grounds Manager and in line with the job description and well-established procedures, you¿ll do routine tasks with clear priorities to keep the school¿s facilities, grounds and equipment safe, functional and ready for use. The role suits someone with trade, horticultural, facilities or general maintenance experience who can work independently, set priorities and solve problems practically in a busy, changing environment.

Annually approximately 3,000 state school students attend the school, with the majority of visits being five days. Students live at the school predominantly within a residential setting, with both day and overnight lessons occurring in natural environments, sometimes further afield. The condition and readiness of our site directly support the quality and safety of these experiences. Your work underpins everything our students and staff do.

We aim to empower people to develop lifelong positive growth by developing students¿ understanding of self and others, and the skills required to contribute to a positive community and a sustainable environment.

Our values of sustainable futures, shaped by challenge, building community and meaningful experiences are aligned to support the realisation of our vision. They also establish shared expectations and community norms, and keep us focused on what matters most for our school community. The school values, alongside the Department¿s, are key to the work the school engages in and support decision making and expectations in our community.
