Chaos1 is an Australian defence company with a mission to forge a faster path to warfighter capability. Purpose-driven and mission-first, Chaos1 deploys the people, processes and technologies needed to tackle defence's toughest problems. In a world where time is short and the threats are real, Chaos1 is the catalyst that operates forward to rapidly field warfighter capability in months.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Red Team at Chaos1 plays the adversary. It thinks, plans and fights the way a threat would against the counter-uncrewed, autonomous and force-protection capabilities under test: uncrewed aircraft flown as first-person-view and one-way attack profiles, the reconnaissance and timing that precede them, the ground and electromagnetic signatures that go with them. It operates on Defence ranges and at allied activities in Australia and overseas, under Chaos1's Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operator's Certificate (ReOC) and Chief Remote Pilot alongside the Flight Operations team, and under Defence aviation safety regulation and the host unit's rules on Defence ranges, and the host nation's rules overseas. The Red Team's job is to be hard to detect, track and defeat, and to do it safely.

ABOUT THE JOB

Chaos1 is seeking a mission-first Red Team Lead to manage the Red Team within our Mission Operations business line. You will own the adversary: the threat picture and the tactics the team emulates, the profiles flown and the ground moves that go with them, the crew, the threat fleet and threat library, and the red-side safety case that lets it all happen on live-fire and electronic warfare events. You can expect to lead Red Team Specialists on the range, plan and run the adversary yourself, and work with the test and evaluation team so the red side of the evidence is as good as the blue.

This is an opportunity to build and lead the adversary that Australian and allied counter-uncrewed and force-protection capability is measured against.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Lead the Red Team on the range through planning, briefing, executing and debriefing every adversary run, in the air and on the ground, with the specialists working alongside you
- Design the adversary. You will build the threat picture from current adversary practice, set the courses of action, tactics, timing and signatures the team emulates against the serial's measures, and write the injects that test the defence's decisions as well as its sensors
- Run reconnaissance and targeting of the system under test. You will find the seams in detection,

tracking and defeat the way an adversary would, and plan the runs that exploit them within the rules of the activity and the host unit's direction
- Fly as remote pilot in command on the profiles that need the most experience, including first flights of recent threat aircraft and one-way attack profiles as authorised
- Support the preparation of flight authorisations, risk assessments and the red-side safety case for live-fire and electronic warfare events, coordinate range and airspace access with the host unit, and own the Red Team's safety culture
- Deliver the red side of the evidence to the test and evaluation team, including the adversary plan, flight logs, telemetry and video for every run, and brief what the defence saw, what it missed and why

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Over 5 years in operational, reconnaissance, opposing force or uncrewed systems roles, with 2+ years leading a small team that planned and executed its own tasks
- CASA Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) with the RPA category ratings for the aircraft we fly, or an ADF uncrewed aircraft qualification with the RePL to be obtained before you fly under Chaos1's ReOC
- Demonstrated adversary acumen. You have planned against a defended site, system or force, found its seams and exploited them within the rules, as an opposing force, in reconnaissance and surveillance, or in evaluating force protection, and you understand how counter-UAS and force-protection systems detect, track and defeat a threat
- Demonstrated experience with uncrewed aircraft in the field, including first-person-view or fixed-wing operation, with a logbook or flight records to show it
- Experience preparing mission plans, risk assessments and safety cases for live activities, including live-fire or electronic warfare events
- Ability to lead, train and check a small team, and to brief operators, engineers and customers clearly
- Able to work outdoors in field conditions for extended periods
- Willingness to deploy to Defence sites and ranges in Australia and overseas for extended periods, including irregular hours in campaign windows

- Australian citizenship and ability to obtain a NV1 security clearance
- Ability to be onsite at Chaos1's XFACTORY, Sydney. This is an onsite and field role.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Time in a small team that planned and executed reconnaissance, surveillance, fires or opposing force tasks in austere or denied environments
- Experience designing exercises, injects and adversary courses of action for trials or collective training
- Experience with electronic warfare, signals or electromagnetic signature management on operations
- Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC), or a CASA-recognised military equivalent, and experience operating in controlled airspace
- BVLOS qualification through the CASA BVLOS theory exam or IREX, and time flying under an operator's BVLOS approval
- Time as a Chief Remote Pilot, Maintenance Controller or instructor under a ReOC
- Competitive drone racing or freestyle background, or military first-person-view or loitering munition experience
- Experience with swarming, autonomous or scripted flight profiles and the tools that plan them
- Experience standing up an opposing force program or threat fleet
- Instructional or training qualifications, including adult education or military instructor courses
- Experience working with allied forces on exercises or trials overseas
- A current NV1 security clearance or above
