Immunology and Serology Medical Laboratory Scientist

We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientists to join our Immunology and Serology departments in Bowen Hills. In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic testing within a busy laboratory setting, supporting accurate and timely results that assist clinicians in the diagnosis and management of autoimmune and infectious diseases.

Key Responsibilities

Process and analyse routine samples for a comprehensive range of autoimmune and infectious disease testing using a variety of laboratory methodologies.

Ensure quality control processes are followed and maintain compliance with ISO 15189 and NATA accreditation standards.

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve instrument or workflow issues encountered during the shift.

Contribute to maintaining efficient laboratory workflows and meeting turnaround time targets.

Liaise with pathologists and laboratory colleagues to support effective diagnostic services.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced laboratory environment and demonstrates strong teamwork, communication, and organisational skills. The successful candidate will be committed to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and patient care.

This role operates Monday to Friday with start times ranging between 5:00am and 9:00pm. Most shifts are expected to be 7:00am to 3:00pm, however some early morning and overnight shifts may be required. Once trained, the successful applicants will also participate in weekend and on-call rosters.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

Appropriate qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent discipline.

Previous experience in a diagnostic Immunology or Serology laboratory.

Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills,



with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The ability to prioritise tasks, work methodically and efficiently, and adhere to occupational health and safety policies.

The ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.

A willingness to take on additional responsibilities within the laboratory when required.

A commitment to Sonic Healthcare core values, ethical practice, and workplace health and safety.

Familiarity with laboratory automation platforms, BioRad Unity, and Microsoft Office is desirable.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

Appropriate qualifications in medical laboratory science (or equivalent)

Previous experience in a diagnostic Immunology or Serology lab

Familiarity with laboratory automation platforms

Experience with BioRad Unity and Microsoft Office
