Senior Impact and Communications Officer

The Centre for Indigenous Economic Transformation (CIET) is a First Nations-led policy centre at The Australian National University, advancing First Nations economic self-determination. Through research, policy, partnerships and education, CIET works alongside First Nations leaders and rights holders, governments, industry and investors to influence economic and institutional reform, strengthen capability and expand opportunities for First Nations peoples to build and manage wealth.

Key Duties

- Reporting to the Partnerships Manager, the Senior Impact and Communications Officer coordinates communications and impact reporting that make the Centre's research, policy and project outcomes clear and accessible, supporting implementation of the communications and media strategy, strengthen partner engagement, deliver events and demonstrate impact through accurate evidence and culturally grounded storytelling.
- Coordinating implementation of the Centre's communications and media strategy, annual communications plan and editorial calendar.
- Researching, writing and editing accessible content including case studies, partner profiles, briefs, speeches, newsletters, web and social media content.
- Developing digital and multimedia assets, including short-form video, photography and simple graphics, that meet ANU approval, accessibility, brand and editorial requirements.
- Coordinating impact measurement and reporting across Centre initiatives, including indicators, qualitative and quantitative evidence, dashboards, partner reporting and the Annual Impact Report.
- Supporting tailored communications and engagement plans for priority partners, including briefings, impact updates and cases for support.
- Planning and delivering communications for seminars, roundtables, dialogues, workshops and launches, including materials and follow-up content.




- Working with First Nations partners to gather stories and evidence, obtain informed consent and protect ICIP and Indigenous Data Sovereignty in line with FPIC principles.
- Managing communications and impact projects, contractors, budgets, procurement, timelines and risks, and monitoring performance and audience engagement to improve content and channels.

Key Skills and Capabilities

- Relevant progress towards postgraduate qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, public policy, Indigenous studies or a related field, with substantial relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and implementing communications strategies and multichannel content programs in a complex organisation, working independently with sound judgement.
- Highly developed research, writing and editorial skills, including the ability to translate complex research, policy and project outcomes into clear, accurate and accessible content.
- Demonstrated capability across digital communications, including content management systems, social and email publishing, and short-form multimedia production.
- Experience developing indicators, gathering and analysing qualitative and quantitative evidence, and producing credible dashboards, reports and impact narratives.
- Strong project and event management skills, including managing multiple priorities, contractors, budgets, procurement, risk and deadlines with close attention to detail.
- Proven ability to build constructive relationships, coordinate input from diverse stakeholders and manage sensitive information.
- High-level Indigenous cultural knowledge and judgement, with demonstrated experience applying culturally secure and rights-based approaches to communications and impact work, including ICIP, Indigenous Data Sovereignty and FPIC.
