About the role

MacKillop Catholic College is seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Year Level x 4 to join our secondary teaching team. This is a full-time position based in Palmerston, NT 0830, offering a unique opportunity to lead and support students throughout a critical stage of their educational journey. As Head of Year Level, you will have strategic responsibility for the pastoral care, academic progress, and wellbeing of students within your year cohort. This role is pivotal in creating a supportive learning environment and ensuring students achieve their full potential.

Key responsibilities

- Provide pastoral care and support to all students within the assigned year level, monitoring their wellbeing, academic progress, and personal development
- Oversee student discipline procedures and implement behaviour management strategies that promote a positive school culture
- Coordinate and conduct year level assemblies, meetings, and events that foster community and school spirit




- Liaise with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements through regular communication and parent-teacher meetings
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to monitor academic performance and identify students requiring additional support or intervention
- Manage attendance records and follow up on unexplained absences or attendance concerns
- Lead and mentor year level coordinators or support staff to ensure consistent implementation of year level policies and procedures
- Develop and deliver pastoral programmes that address the social, emotional, and developmental needs of the year cohort
- Advocate for students' needs and ensure equitable access to school resources and opportunities
- Contribute to the development and implementation of whole-school initiatives that enhance student outcomes and school culture

What we're looking for

- Qualified secondary teacher with current teaching registration and substantial experience in secondary education
- Proven experience in a pastoral or leadership role within a secondary school setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff,



and families
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with capacity to manage multiple priorities and demands
- Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing and safeguarding, with knowledge of current child protection practices
- Understanding of adolescent development and ability to respond sensitively to the diverse needs of young people
- Experience in implementing behaviour management and student support strategies
- Strong administrative skills and proficiency in using school management systems and data analysis
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability
- Commitment to Catholic education values and principles is advantageous
