Agency Purpose
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.
The AEC’s values and commitments
The AEC values and commitments are an essential component of our operating environment and frame how AEC staff work. The AEC's focus is on electoral integrity through the values of quality, agility and professionalism.
About the Team
The Event Workforce Section sits within the Event Enabling Branch and is responsible for the strategic planning, recruitment, establishment, support, training coordination, and remuneration systems that enable the AEC's event workforce.
The section provides national leadership for the attraction, recruitment, and management of the AEC's permanent election surge workforce and Temporary Election Workforce (TEW), supporting the delivery of federal elections, referendums, and by-elections across Australia.
The section is responsible for overseeing workforce planning, labour hire arrangements, TEW systems, operational recruitment delivery, employment frameworks, training support arrangements, and workforce reporting. During a federal election, these arrangements support the engagement, training, and payment of approximately 100,000 temporary election workers nationwide.
