About The Role

We are seeking senior-level backend engineers to join the Equal Experts network. In this consulting role, you will partner with clients and colleagues to understand business needs, shape technical solutions and deliver dependable software. You will contribute throughout the delivery lifecycle, from clarifying requirements and designing systems to deploying and supporting services in production.

You will work in teams that use modern agile engineering practices, including test-driven development, pair programming, continuous integration and continuous deployment. These practices help teams receive fast feedback, make informed decisions and deliver pragmatic solutions. Alongside hands-on engineering, you will help clients improve the way they build and operate software, sharing knowledge in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Qualifications

You bring extensive commercial experience developing, maintaining and operating enterprise-scale distributed systems. You have expert-level knowledge of at least one programming language and its associated tools, with experience in additional languages considered an advantage. You are comfortable applying test-driven development and other forms of automated testing to produce reliable, maintainable software.

You understand the principles behind agile development and can adapt practices to suit different teams and delivery contexts. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to work effectively with globally distributed teams. You are team-oriented, open to learning,



and able to work towards shared outcomes without insisting on a single approach.

Experience with microservices, RESTful services and large-scale production systems is valuable. Familiarity with containerised or cloud environments, including AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure, is also an advantage.

Responsibilities

Partner with clients and delivery teams to understand system requirements, assess options and determine practical ways to deliver business value. Design, build, test and maintain backend software using appropriate engineering standards and agile practices. Contribute to pair programming, test-driven development, automated testing, continuous integration and continuous deployment.

Automate infrastructure and deployment processes where appropriate, and take responsibility for the systems you build by supporting them in production. Help teams establish feedback loops that identify issues early and inform ongoing improvements. Advocate agile engineering practices in a way that fits the client’s context, mentor client team members, and share technical knowledge with colleagues. Contribute to improving the delivery capabilities of both the project team and client organisation.
