Based in Sydney, Australia, this hands-on position is part of a customer-facing field team. You will build agentic AI systems, LLM applications, and production machine-learning pipelines that move beyond prototypes into real customer workflows and measurable business outcomes.

You will partner with customer teams, Kaggle Grandmasters, machine-learning engineers, domain experts, and program and solution teams. The role spans the full engineering lifecycle, from understanding a business problem and exploring data to deploying, monitoring, and improving production systems.

Qualifications

Candidates should bring at least three years of practical AI or machine-learning engineering experience,

including end-to-end model development and production deployment. You should have demonstrable experience developing LLM-powered applications, such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, agentic workflows, or fine-tuned models.

- Solid Python skills and experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
- Knowledge of LLM tools and orchestration frameworks, such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalent technologies.
- Understanding of modern Generative AI, including prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning, model evaluation, guardrails, and LLMOps.
- Experience with backend development, REST APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience deploying AI services in cloud or enterprise environments, including AWS, Azure, GCP, on-premises, or hybrid infrastructure.
- Sound grounding in classical machine learning and the judgment to choose suitable approaches for different problems.
- Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences.

Experience with Kaggle or competitive machine learning, H2O.ai products, tabular foundation models, AutoML, or regulated industries such as financial services and healthcare is an advantage. Customer-facing or field engineering experience is also valued.

Responsibilities

- Design and build agentic AI and multi-agent systems that support complex, multi-step enterprise workflows.
- Develop and deploy LLM applications using RAG, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, function calling, and tool use.
- Explore model distillation and synthetic data generation for open-source model fine-tuning, including PEFT-QLoRA approaches.
- Implement evaluation frameworks, guardrails, and responsible AI controls to improve the safety, reliability, and quality of production systems.
- Own solution development from problem framing and data exploration through model creation, API integration, deployment, and ongoing improvement.
- Build scalable services, ML pipelines, and LLMOps capabilities for monitoring and continuous model improvement.
- Integrate solutions into customer cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, prioritizing performance and maintainability.
- Work with customer technical and business stakeholders, contribute to proofs of concept, and communicate designs and outcomes clearly.

Benefits H2O.ai offers a remote-friendly culture, flexible working environment, competitive total rewards, and opportunities for career growth. Join a world-class team working on consequential AI challenges and help bring responsible, production-ready AI into organizations around the world.
