*Permanent salaried position available | Full-time or part-time | Contractor option also available* What if your next GP role gave you more than a change of consulting room? Perhaps you’ve reached a point when what you want from general practice has shifted a little. You still enjoy the medicine, but you’d like to know the people you’re caring for, work alongside a team you can learn from, support other doctors and feel more connected to the community around your practice. That’s the kind of prospect Wurli is offering an experienced VR GP in Katherine. Wurli is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation supporting Katherine and surrounding communities. Around 180 people work across the organisation, providing general practice, chronic disease care, women’s and children’s health, men's health, aged care support, community services and so much more As a GP here, your day doesn’t happen in isolation behind a consulting room door. You’ll work alongside Aboriginal Health Practitioners, nurses, GPs and trainees, allied health professionals and community teams. Your day might involve caring for someone with complex chronic health needs, working with an Aboriginal Health Practitioner or nurse on their care, then later talking through a clinical question with a doctor you supervise. You’ll bring your own experience, but there will be plenty to learn too, particularly about Aboriginal health, culture and culturally responsive healthcare and with time comes something that goes to the heart of general practice: continuity. Wurli has worked hard to maintain medical services through a combination of permanent GPs, locums and virtual care. But when people are living with chronic and complex health needs, being able to know your doctor and build that relationship over time matters. As a permanent GP, you have the opportunity to become a familiar face, to know the history rather than always reading it for the first time,
to see what happens beyond a single consultation. Your contribution can reach further through supervision too. By supporting other doctors and helping strengthen Wurli’s onsite supervision capacity, your experience can contribute not only to the care being delivered today, but to the medical workforce the community will rely on into the future. Then there’s life in Katherine Katherine offers a very different life outside work. There are schools, supermarket, restaurants, a boutique cinema and aquatic facilities locally, with hot springs, landscapes, arts, history and cultural experiences to explore across the wider region. Darwin is around three hours away by road. The practical side Wurli is seeking an experienced VR GP, with full time or part time arrangements considered. You will need to be a Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM if you are keen to supervisor GP trainees. Full time is approximately 37.5 hours per week. Importantly, a permanent salaried option is available, with salary sacrifice available to employees, which may appeal if you’re looking for a different model from traditional percentage based general practice. Independent contractor arrangements are also available. Depending on the agreed contract, temporary or subsidised accommodation, accommodation support and/or vehicle arrangements may be available. Wurli may also be able to use local connections to help a relocating partner explore employment opportunities. Perhaps you’re not looking for another GP job. Perhaps you’re looking for somewhere you can get to know the community you care for, keep learning from the people around you and use your experience to help another doctor grow. Somewhere you can finish the week knowing your contribution extends beyond the number of patients you saw, and what you do will make a lasting impact on the community you serve. If that has made you curious about Wurli or Katherine, send us your CV and let's have a conversation.
