Heavy Duty Fitter – Karratha Permanent full-time | Monday–Friday | $195,000 base + super + rental assistance

About the role
Hicks Civil and Mining is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Fitter to join our Karratha depot team. This permanent full-time, residential role is responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of heavy plant, equipment and vehicles to support safe, reliable operations. You will supervise a Trade Assistant and have the capability to mentor and develop an apprentice as our team grows. The role works Monday to Friday across 10-hour days, including a 30-minute unpaid meal break and applicable paid rest breaks. Occasional site work will be required to provide operational coverage. What you’ll be doing
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical and mechanical faults across heavy plant, equipment and vehicles.
- Complete scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair and rebuild components as required.
- Coordinate maintenance priorities with the depot and operational teams to minimise downtime.
- Supervise and guide a Trade Assistant, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required standard.
- Support the future training and development of an apprentice.
- Maintain accurate servicing, repair and inspection records using company systems.
- Maintain a safe, organised workshop and comply with safety, quality and environmental requirements.
- Attend project sites when required to support maintenance and operational coverage. What we’re looking for
- Relevant trade qualification as a Heavy Duty Fitter or Diesel Mechanic.




- At least five years’ relevant experience, preferably within civil construction, mining or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Strong hydraulic, electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings and equipment specifications.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise maintenance tasks and communicate effectively with operators and supervisors.
- Experience supervising or guiding a Trade Assistant, with the capability to mentor an apprentice.
- A practical commitment to safety, equipment reliability and quality workmanship.
- A current HR driver’s licence.
- Willingness to undertake occasional site work to meet operational requirements.
