About the job Systems Engineer | Defence | Melbourne Melbourne
• Permanent Full-time
• NV1/NV2
• $160,000–$200,000 (inc. super) In two and a half years, Eolas has grown from 1 to 28 Defence and security professionals. More than half joined through LinkedIn. We're currently looking for a Systems Engineer to join a high-impact Defence program based in Melbourne For the right candidate, this would initially be to backfill role an existing engagement (subject to client approval) — and we're also actively looking to fill several other interesting Defence roles with our clients across Melbourne. If you're a strong Systems Engineer, particualrly those with a T&E; background, we'd love to talk to you. What Makes You Right for This
• Strong systems engineering background within Defence acquisition or capability development programs
• Comfortable operating in complex, multi-contract, system-of-systems environments
• Confident reviewing and endorsing complex engineering documentation — specifications, design packages, technical risk registers
• Experience mentoring less senior engineers and building technical capability in a team
• Chartered Professional Engineer status is not required — eligibility to attain CPEng is though. Eolas supports and mentors staff through their CPEng application if that's helpful to you
• Australian citizen with a current NV1 or NV2 clearance
• Melbourne based. We also take a modern approach to hiring. We don't expect a 100% match against every bullet above — research consistently shows that bar tends to discourage brilliant candidates, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, from applying. If you meet most of this and the work excites you, please apply. We view diversity as one of our greatest assets. The difference-maker:
You've worked where nothing is simple and stakeholders are everywhere. You can exercise sound engineering judgment, manage technical risk, and shape technical direction without waiting to be told what to do. What You'll Actually Do
• Lead development of complex engineering documentation and provide engineering advice and assurance across design, integration, and verification activities
• Identify, assess, and manage technical risk, and support governance and delegations frameworks
• Represent engineering interests in technical forums, working groups, and formal system reviews with contractors and stakeholders
• Mentor and develop engineers earlier in their career, and help grow our talent pipeline more broadly
• Collaborate across discipline streams to keep engineering inputs aligned with program objectives Why Eolas At Eolas, you won't be rewarded for looking busy. You'll be recognised for what you deliver and how you deliver it. We're also serious about building a genuinely fun, safe and welcoming home for our consultants — not just a talent supply chain. We're developing a formal Career Management Framework to support that, and we'll be sharing more on it soon. Three values shape our work:
• Own It. See a problem, fix it. Take responsibility, follow through, and make things better.
• Focus on What Matters. Clear the noise. If something doesn't move the needle, challenge it or change it.
• Create Together. Respect what the client knows, bring what you know, and shape the solution together. Ready to Join a Team Doing Things Differently? We're not looking for contractors, we're looking for full-time, permanent staff who are genuine about delivering impact as a consultant. Eolas Solutions. Less noise. More clarity. Real outcomes. We actively encourage applications from veterans and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
