Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant for managing and maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements and management reports, monitoring financial performance, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and taxation requirements.

The position supports the financial operations of the company's fresh fruit wholesale and distribution business, with particular emphasis on inventory accounting, cost analysis, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.

The Accountant reports directly to the Finance Manager and provides financial information and analysis to support effective business operations and management decision-making.

Key Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

- Minimum of 1 year's relevant accounting experience, preferably within the wholesale, distribution, or inventory-intensive industries.

- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, taxation requirements, and relevant Australian Accounting Standards.

- Sound understanding of inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and financial analysis.

- Proficiency in accounting software such as MYOB, Xero, SAP, or similar systems.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail,



and ability to meet reporting deadlines.

- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with management and other departments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

- Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards.

- Maintain and review general ledger accounts, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.

- Monitor and analyse inventory costs, stock movements, inventory valuations, and cost of goods sold, particularly in relation to fresh and perishable produce.

- Review and reconcile inventory accounting records for fresh fruits, vegetables, and other perishable produce, ensuring accurate financial recording of purchases, sales, returns, stock movements, inventory adjustments, and cost of goods sold.

- Prepare financial and management reports, including analysis of revenue, operating expenses, profit margins, and business performance, to support management decision-making.

- Assist the Finance Manager in preparing annual budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow projections,



and analyse variances between actual and budgeted financial results.

- Review and reconcile supplier and customer accounts, including invoices, credit notes, payment transactions, purchase returns, and customer receipts, and investigate and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting.

- Monitor cash flow, assess financial commitments, and provide recommendations to improve working capital management and financial efficiency.

- Prepare and review financial information required for Business Activity Statements (BAS), GST reporting, payroll tax, and other relevant taxation and statutory obligations.

- Review payroll records, employee entitlements, and superannuation contributions to ensure accurate accounting and compliance with relevant requirements.

- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, tax advisers, and other relevant parties regarding financial reporting, taxation matters, and audit requirements.

- Analyse financial transactions and operating costs associated with purchasing, warehousing, transportation, and distribution activities, and identify opportunities for cost control and operational improvements.

- Assist in reviewing and improving accounting procedures, internal financial controls, and reporting systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
