Sharp & Carter

Sydney

Sharp & Carter are currently partnering with a leading ASX-listed fintech to find a Privacy & Dispute Resolution Officer for the next four months. You’ll join their Risk & Compliance team, helping customers in Australia and New Zealand get fair, accurate and timely outcomes on their privacy requests and complaints.

The business’s busiest period of the year is starting, there’s a backlog of customer requests and complaints, and the team needs someone with privacy experience who can start soon.

What you’ll do

Most of your day will be spent managing the Australian and New Zealand privacy inboxes. Customers will ask what personal information the business holds about them, ask for details to be corrected, or ask for their data to be deleted. You’ll find the answers across internal systems, update their records and respond accurately and on time, in line with privacy legislation and regulatory obligations. It’s mainly email, with very little phone work.

You’ll also manage a portfolio of external dispute resolution complaints with AFCA and FSCL, from investigation through to resolution. You’ll work with the Customer Service, Credit, Fraud and Product teams to understand what happened from the customer’s side. Then you’ll bring the evidence together into clear, balanced submissions and help reach a fair outcome. You’ll also help keep the EDR workflow moving by tracking case progress and flagging complex matters for escalation.

Beyond individual cases, you’ll look for patterns in complaints and privacy requests, such as recurring issues or root causes. You’ll help turn these into practical improvements and contribute to reporting for the risk and compliance team. You’ll also take part in quality checks and peer reviews to keep responses consistent.

From December, new Privacy Act rules give customers the right to ask whether automated or AI tools were used to make decisions about them. You’ll help answer those questions as they come in. If you’ve worked on this kind of change before, we’d like to hear about it.

What you’ll bring

- Privacy experience is essential. You’ll need hands-on experience with privacy requests and obligations, ideally in Australian or Recent Zealand financial services.
- Several years’ experience in privacy, compliance, complaints, dispute resolution, legal or financial services.

- Exposure to AFCA or another external dispute resolution scheme, ideally including preparing written responses or submissions.
- A customer-focused approach to sensitive matters. You can balance regulatory obligations, fairness and commercial considerations, and you treat people with patience, especially when they’re frustrated.
- Clear, careful writing. You can explain complex matters plainly and structure a response well.
- Good organisation, so you can manage competing priorities, a changing caseload and regulatory deadlines.
- Confidence learning several systems quickly to gather information and review evidence.
- The ability to work independently while still asking questions as you get up to speed.
- An interest in improving processes, including through smarter use of AI and new tools.
