About Redland City Council

Redland City Council serves more than 160,000 residents across the Redlands Coast. The region takes in bayside suburbs, rural hinterland and six islands, including North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), and sits within easy reach of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Council is entering a recent chapter. A new five-year Corporate Plan took effect in July 2026, and Council manages a $468 million operating budget and a $136 million capital program. It has a strong focus on financial discipline, efficiency and delivering what matters most to the community.

About the Role

Internally titled Group Manager Financial Services, this is a genuine Deputy CFO role. You will report to a highly regarded CFO, sit on the Senior Leadership Team and step into the CFO role when required.

You will lead a finance team of over 40 people across two business units through two Service Managers:

- Corporate Finance: statutory and management reporting, asset accounting, tax and treasury.
- Financial Operations: rating, water billing and revenue collection for the city.

What you’ll do

- Partner with the CFO on short and long-term financial strategy aligned to the Corporate Plan.
- Oversee monthly results, the annual financial statements and the Queensland Audit Office relationship.
- Lead rating and revenue services with a strong customer and community focus.
- Find opportunities to strengthen Council’s financial position through new revenue, efficiencies and smarter service delivery.

- Sponsor key projects, including Council’s Digital Transformation program.
- Build a high-performing, engaged team and develop the leaders within it.
- Provide clear, trusted advice in a complex legislative and political environment.

What you’ll bring

- CA or CPA qualification, with senior finance leadership experience in a complex organisation.
- Strong technical accounting, including applying Australian Accounting Standards and consolidations.
- A track record of leading large teams and driving change and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder skills to influence executives and elected members, and to navigate competing priorities.
- Local government experience is valued but not essential. Strong finance leaders from the broader public sector, government-owned corporations or the private sector are encouraged to apply.

Why join?

- A true Deputy CFO seat with exposure to the CFO role and a pathway to it.
- Work that directly shapes services for a growing community.
- An executive contract of up to five years, flexible working, generous superannuation and a wellness program.
- A coastal lifestyle without giving up access to the city.

Applications close

5:00pm AEST, Friday 27th November 2026.

Redland City Council values the diverse skills, experiences and perspectives of its people, and is committed to being an inclusive workplace where everyone belongs.
