Software Engineer

Location: Canberra, ACT or Melbourne, VIC

Work Arrangement: Full time, onsite

Clearance: Active TSPV required

Estimated start dates: February - May 2026

The Opportunity

We are seeking multiple Software Engineer to join a team delivering mission-critical software solutions across Defence, Intelligence and Government environments.

You’ll work across the full software development lifecycle, contributing to the design, development, testing, integration and deployment of secure, reliable and scalable software solutions.

Working alongside software engineers, architects, business analysts and customer stakeholders, you’ll help solve complex technical challenges and deliver high-quality outcomes within a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test and maintain software applications and systems.
- Contribute to Agile delivery, including story development, estimation and sprint activities.
- Support system integration, deployment and automation using CI/CD and SecDevOps practices.
- Develop web-based user interfaces and contribute to improving user experience.
- Build and maintain unit tests, integration tests and automated testing solutions.
- Investigate defects, perform root-cause analysis and implement effective fixes.
- Apply secure coding standards and software engineering best practices.
- Research and prototype new technologies and maintain technical documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions aligned with customer requirements.





Essential Skills and Experience

- Experience in software development and an understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, coding standards and testing practices.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Ability to analyse complex problems and develop practical solutions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Desirable Technical Experience

Experience with one or more of the following would be advantageous:

- Development: Java, .NET, React or Angular.
- Integration: REST APIs, JSON, XML and external system integration.
- Open-source technologies: Apache NiFi, Kafka, ELK Stack or Solr.
- DevSecOps and CI/CD: Git, GitLab, Ansible and automation.
- Containers: Docker and Kubernetes.
- Environments and tools: Linux, Windows, Jira and Confluence.

Security Requirements

Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold an active TSPV security clearance.

Employment Details

This is a full-time opportunity, with salary dependent on seniority and experience. TSPV is mandatory; candidates with NV1 or NV2 clearances may also be considered for future opportunities. The successful applicant must be able to work onsite in Canberra or Melbourne within a secure environment. ITAR requirements may also apply.
