Salary: $150,000 + super, with the potential to increase to $170,000 + super following a three-month review
About the opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Financial Controller to join a growing, founder-led business experiencing significant expansion, with revenue forecast to increase from $25m to $40m this financial year.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function, strengthen financial processes and provide the reporting and insight needed to support the next stage of growth.
Importantly, this is a genuine succession opportunity, with the potential to progress into a Chief Financial Officer position over time. It would suit a technically strong accountant who enjoys being close to the business, thrives in a rapid-paced environment and is looking to take the next step in their career.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee month-end reporting across five cost centres and five projects.
- Manage cash flow reporting, budgeting and forecasting to support business planning.
- Prepare and maintain weekly reporting across revenue, key expenses and labour costs.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting, ensuring strong accounting processes and controls.
- Understand and oversee the flow of financial information from operational job management systems through to financial reporting.
- Support the business with timely financial information to assist operational and commercial decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, financial visibility and the effectiveness of the finance function.
- Work closely with the leadership team and wider business to support continued growth and operational performance.
About you
You are a qualified accountant with a strong technical foundation and the confidence to take ownership of a broad finance function. You enjoy a hands-on environment where no two days are necessarily the same and can adapt quickly as business priorities evolve.
You will ideally bring:
- CA, CPA or equivalent accounting qualification.
- Experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or Senior Financial Accountant position, ideally within an SME or growing business.
- Strong knowledge of month-end reporting, financial accounting and core accounting processes.
- A solid understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes and how transactional data flows through to financial reporting.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial analysis.
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with financial and operational systems.
- A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- The ambition and capability to develop into a broader CFO role as the business grows.
The working environment
This is a predominantly office-based role in Kogarah, with an expectation of five days per week on-site. The business has a close-knit team environment, with finance working alongside operations, project management and administration.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a founder-led business where flexibility, initiative and a willingness to get involved are important.
What's on offer?
- $150,000 base salary + super, with the potential to increase to $170,000 + super following a three-month performance review.
- A genuine opportunity to take ownership of the finance function.
- A clear longer-term pathway towards a CFO position.
- The opportunity to play a key role in a business undergoing significant growth.
- Close exposure to business leadership and the opportunity to influence financial processes as the business scales.
