About the Position

MBS Steel Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Welder to join our team in Moolap, Victoria. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing welding, metal fabrication, cutting, preparation and finishing tasks in accordance with technical drawings, specifications, workplace safety standards and quality requirements.

This is a full-time, ongoing position offering an annual salary of $80,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation, depending on qualifications, skills and experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical specifications to determine appropriate welding methods and requirements.
- Prepare metal surfaces for welding using flame cutting, thermal cutting, gouging, bevelling, grinding and filing techniques.
- Perform MIG, TIG, arc and other appropriate welding processes to join metal components.
- Set up and operate welding machinery, including adjusting gas pressure, voltage, amperage and other operating controls.
- Preheat metal components to required temperatures where necessary.
- Operate welding equipment safely, including connecting hoses, gas cylinders, electrical cables and other attachments.
- Inspect completed welds for quality, accuracy, strength and compliance with specifications.
- Clean, smooth and finish welded joints using grinders, files, chisels and polishing equipment.




- Identify welding defects and undertake necessary corrective work.
- Use measuring instruments and weld gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Maintain welding equipment, hand tools and power tools in safe working condition.
- Follow occupational health and safety procedures and correctly use personal protective equipment.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and other employees to complete assigned projects efficiently.

Qualifications and Experience

- Australian Certificate III or higher qualification in Engineering, Fabrication Trade or a relevant equivalent qualification.
- Minimum one year of relevant experience working as a Welder or in a similar metal fabrication environment.
- Construction White Card.
- Practical knowledge of MIG, TIG and arc welding techniques.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Tools and Equipment

The successful applicant must be competent in using relevant welding and fabrication equipment, including hand tools, measuring instruments, weld gauges, hammers, chisels, grinders, drills, polishing machines, MIG and TIG welding equipment, arc welding equipment, oxyacetylene equipment and flame cutting and heating equipment.

Salary and Employment Conditions

The successful candidate will be offered a full time, ongoing position with an annual salary ranging from AUD $80,000 to $85,000 plus statutory superannuation, subject to experience and qualifications.
