SimplyFunded is a fast-growing international SME lender operating across the UK, Australia, India and the Philippines. As our Australian portfolio expands, recoveries and enforcement are central to protecting cashflow, managing bad debt and shaping future credit strategy.

We are appointing a senior Head of Recoveries & Legal – Australia to lead recoveries, enforcement and back-book performance end-to-end.

Role Overview

This role provides strategic ownership of the Australian recoveries and legal function. You will define how SimplyFunded manages arrears, defaults, enforcement and insolvency matters, and ensure insights from the back book directly influence credit policy and lending decisions.

You will lead a blended operating model including offshore collections/legal teams and external Australian solicitors and recovery specialists.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Recoveries Leadership

- Set and own the recoveries strategy for the Australian portfolio.
- Drive improvements in recovery rate, cash collection and time-to-recovery.
- Ensure disciplined, consistent approaches across arrears, default and enforcement.

Legal & Enforcement Oversight

- Own the legal escalation strategy and determine when enforcement is commercially justified.
- Manage external Australian legal providers and oversee PPSR/security enforcement.
- Ensure offshore legal/paralegal teams follow correct Australian processes.

Portfolio Performance

- Own back-book performance across performing, arrears and non-performing accounts.
- Analyse bad-debt trends, recovery outcomes and portfolio-level risks.
- Provide senior leadership with transparent, data-driven reporting and forecasting.

Credit Strategy Influence





- Identify patterns in borrower behaviour, sectors and deal structures.
- Recommend changes to underwriting, security, guarantees and credit policy.
- Ensure recoveries insights shape future lending decisions.

Commercial Mandate

You will lead commercial decision-making on recovery pathways, balancing:

- Expected recovery value
- Legal cost and time
- Probability of enforcement success
- Borrower circumstances and insolvency position
- Available security and settlement options
- Portfolio-level impact

The mandate is to maximise commercial outcomes, not to default to legal action.

Experience Profile

Essential

- Solid experience in Australian lending, recoveries, enforcement or insolvency.
- Proven leadership of distressed commercial accounts.
- In-depth understanding of Australian legal and enforcement processes.
- Experience managing external lawyers and insolvency practitioners.
- Robust commercial judgement and analytical capability.

Desirable

- SME/commercial lending or non-bank lending experience.
- PPSR/security enforcement experience.
- Experience managing offshore teams.
- Legal qualification or substantial practical legal experience.
