Scientist I – Molecular Biology

Location:
Cambridge, UK (on-site) ___ The Company We are Alloy Therapeutics — a biotechnology ecosystem and Product Development Organization (PDO) empowering the global scientific community to make better medicines together. Through a community of partners, we democratize access to pre-competitive tools, technologies, services, and company creation capabilities that are foundational for discovering and developing therapeutic biologics. The company facilitates affordable, non-exclusive access to the entire drug discovery community from academic scientists, small and medium biotech, to the largest biopharma. At Alloy, we believe our industry should compete on getting the best drugs to patients as quickly as possible, not exclusive access to the best platforms. As a reflection of our relentless commitment to the scientific community, we reinvest 100% of our revenue in innovation and access to innovation. May the Best Drug Win. Alloy has evolved from a startup into a global product development organization operating 11 divisions across 5 research sites in 4 countries on 3 continents. Our model
- Integrated Independence
- combines centralized capabilities with entrepreneurial operating divisions. Successful members thrive in our shared culture of accountability, deliberate trust, and open communication. As a team we aspire to work together to exceed expectations and collectively contribute across the global organization to always maintain our nimble, startup culture. At Alloy, we have an ethos of "Mentorship-By-Apprenticeship" in all of our positions. We strive to have workers in the office when needed to interact organically and face-to-face. Of course, as a lab-based operation, our cells and animals grow 7 days a week, 365 days per year.

We respect and value our colleagues for their hard work that requires them to be in the lab every day. We ask our people who have more flexible accommodations to appreciate their colleagues who have less flexibility. We are all one team

About the Role
at Alloy Therapeutics As a Molecular Biologist in the GEO (Genetically Engineered Organisms) Team, you will contribute to the design and construction of large-scale synthetic gene loci that underpin our next-generation discovery platforms. Using advanced genome engineering approaches, you will help create highly diverse systems for therapeutic antibody discovery, including bispecifics and VHHs. This role blends thoughtful genetic design with hands-on experimental work to build the scientific capabilities that enable our partners to develop new medicines. You will utilise the latest technologies and equipment to develop and characterize next-generation research models, supporting the discovery of innovative therapeutics and helping others make better medicines. How You’ll Drive Impact
- Complex Locus Engineering: Design and implement complex humanization strategies using state-of-the-art technologies to model the human immune repertoire across diverse research platforms.
- Quality Control: Apply rigorous scientific judgment to ensure consistency and reliability by critically evaluating data, experimental approaches, and conclusions.
- Innovation: Approach scientific challenges with curiosity and an open mindset,

contributing new ideas and methods while fostering team-oriented problem-solving.
- Execution: Take initiative and proactively advance work, demonstrating ownership and accountability while contributing to team success.
- Collaboration & Trust: Build strong working relationships by consistently delivering high-quality work, acting with integrity, and supporting shared team goals. Required Qualifications
-

Education:
PhD in Developmental Biology, Functional Genetics, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience (your title will be aligned with your experience).
- Immunology: Knowledge of immunology and the ability to perform immunophenotypic analysis of B and T cell populations using multicolor flow cytometry.
- Genetic Engineering: Familiarity with genetic engineering and the generation of transgenic animal models, including the design of targeting and screening strategies, vector construction and preparation, data analysis and troubleshooting.
- Precision Genome Engineering: Proficiency in CRISPR/Cas9 and advanced integration tools, such as Recombinase-Mediated Cassette Exchange (RMCE) or site‑specific integrases (e.g., Bxb1).
- Molecular Biology: High proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, western blotting, next‑generation sequencing (NGS), plasmid construction and nucleic acid purification.
- Comparative Immunogenetics: A good understanding of human immunology and repertoire generation mechanisms across different species, specifically how to engineer for both V(D)J recombination and alternative diversification strategies like gene conversion or somatic hypermutation.
- Model Characterization: Experience w
