Location Profile
Kiewa Valley Primary School is a rural, community school with a student population of 140 students. We are located in the township of Tangambalanga in the beautiful Kiewa Valley, but still only 24km from Albury/Wodonga. Approximately forty percent of our students travel to school by bus from nearby communities such as Kergunyah, Gundowring, Charleroi, Huon, Kiewa and Allans Flat. We serve a wide range of different communities, who share our school as a common link to one another.
Within our school grounds we also have an Early Learning Centre which incorporates both Child Maternal Health (managed by Indigo Shire), and the Kindergarten. This makes for a smooth and successful transition for students and families as they move from one area to another, giving the Kindergarten students the use of school facilities when required.
Our school community is predominantly low non English speaking and mid to high socio-economic status. In 2026 we have a six grade structure. Auslan, Science, Performing Arts, Visual Art, and Physical Education are specialist areas of the curriculum which support and connect to our classroom programs.
Our school community is built on positive relationships. It is the relationships that exist between individuals and groups within and beyond the school which are seen as being of vital importance. Along with relationships, the education, safety and wellbeing of each child is highly valued by all members of our school community.
Our vision at Kiewa Valley Primary School is ¿Our community grows together through kindness as empowered, creative learners who believe we can all make a difference.
At Kiewa Valley Primary School our values are:
Respect
Kindness
Inclusion
Integrity
We believe that in order to learn and grow students need an environment which is happy, caring, protected and secure. All members of our community are charged with the responsibility of ensuring that our environment is safe and secure. As a school, we have no tolerance for bullying of any form.Students are encouraged to use the relationships which exist with adults in our school to seek out assistance when in challenging situations. We also explore the growing issue of Cyber Bullying with our students and will continue to revisit this issue over time.
There is a deep commitment to the nurturing and development of our students as individuals and to fostering their individuality. Personal achievement and striving to succeed in all aspects of school are valued and supported. All students are encouraged to take on responsibilities within the school and to develop a social conscience. We now conduct SRC¿s across our whole school. We actively work with our students to develop their decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills and their voice and agency in learning and wellbeing. It is through these approaches that we aim to develop students who will go on into their future to become fully engaged, active citizens of our society.
