Job Description
Google Cloud Architect (GCP)
resource “google_compute_network” “your_next_role” {
name = “private-by-default”
auto_create_subnetworks = false
}
Public IPs: 0. Hybrid links: plenty.
Cloud platforms never live alone. They have to connect securely to data centres, business systems and the people who run them. This role makes those connections work.
The opportunity
A hands-on Google Cloud architecture and platform engineering role, designing and building enterprise GCP platforms for major Australian organisations. You’ll take each platform from first design conversation through to production, and own more of the technical decisions along the way.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing and building hybrid connectivity with Cloud Interconnect, HA VPN, Cloud Router and BGP
- Building VPC and Shared VPC environments: subnetting, routing, firewall policy, Cloud DNS and load balancing
- Applying a private-by-default security model with Private Service Connect, VPC Service Controls, controlled egress,
Secret Manager and Cloud KMS
- Writing Terraform across multiple environments and running the CI/CD behind it
- Setting up logging, monitoring and alerting, and troubleshooting tricky connectivity issues
- Producing explicit designs and runbooks, and explaining trade-offs to technical and non-technical people
What you’ll bring
- Hands-on GCP networking and hybrid connectivity experience
- Confidence with Terraform and CI/CD across multiple environments
- Working knowledge of IAM, VPC Service Controls, Private Service Connect, Cloud KMS and Cloud Armor
- Experience working directly with customers or stakeholders, and the ability to explain your thinking clearly
- Bonus points for GitLab, BigQuery, Kafka or another public cloud
If you’ve built private-by-default GCP platforms and enjoy explaining why, I’d love to hear from you.
