Working at Clarence Valley Council
Our goal is simple. We want Clarence Valley to be a community full of opportunity. We know that starts with our people.
Located in the heart of the Northern Rivers, the Clarence Valley is a special place to call home. With over 100km of stunning beaches, national parks and 60 unique towns and villages to enjoy, we’ve got a massive backyard to look after.
As one of the region’s largest employers, we provide the job security and career opportunities of a large organisation, with the warmth and connection of a local team. We’re currently working on some big plans to make the Valley even better by 2036, and we need people who are ready to roll up their sleeves and be a part of something truly important.
Your opportunity
We have multiple opportunities in Grafton and Townsend.
Do you enjoy hands-on work and want to help maintain and improve the infrastructure that keeps our communities connected? Are you a team player who is keen to learn new skills and develop your career? If so, we'd love to hear from you.
We currently have vacancies within our Civil Services team for motivated people interested in operating plant and equipment across a range of civil construction and maintenance activities.
At Council, you'll have the opportunity to work with a diverse fleet of construction plant and equipment, including graders, excavators, rollers and many other specialised machines. Council is committed to investing in its people and provides opportunities for training, skill development and career progression.
In this role, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining plant and equipment to ensure it remains safe, reliable and ready for use. You will also work closely with your team and help out with other duties such as labouring and traffic control to support the successful delivery of projects.
We're looking for people who have experience operating construction plant, a positive attitude, a strong commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn and contribute wherever needed.
Join a team that takes pride in delivering essential infrastructure for the community while supporting your professional growth and development.
What you’ll bring
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
- Certificate II in a relevant field; or equivalent relevant industry experience
- A general knowledge of road and drainage maintenance and construction activities
- A current Class HR Driver’s Licence and a General Construction Induction (White Card)
- A safety-first approach, with a strong commitment to following WHS standards.
Applications close at 11:30pm Tuesday 24 November 2026.
Other significant information
All successful candidates will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol screening and a pre-employment medical check may be required.
This position is located at Council's Rushforth Road Works Depot or Townsend Works Depot, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.
