Complex Child Support Worker – In-Home Care
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate, confident and physically capable Support Workers to provide in-home support to a 7-year-old child with complex medical and support needs.
This role involves providing a safe, supportive and engaging workplace before and after school, while assisting with daily routines, medical care, mobility and emotional regulation.
The child has complex medical needs, including Dravent Syndrome, seizures, asthma and enteral feeding requirements. Support Workers must be confident following individual care plans, managing mealtime requirements and responding appropriately to medical needs.
The role also involves supporting the child with emotional regulation, including accompanying him on extended walks with his wheelchair when required. As he can become escalated and may attempt to run or abscond, staff must be confident responding to these situations while maintaining safety.
This role would suit someone who is patient, proactive, physically fit and comfortable supporting a child with complex medical and behavioural needs. Experience in complex care, disability support or paediatric care would be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing attentive, person-centred care and supervision within the home and community.
- Supporting morning and afternoon routines, including preparing for school and settling in at home after school.
- Providing support in line with the child's individual care plans and medical requirements.
- Supporting PEG feeding,
nasal tube care and mealtime management in accordance with individual plans, training and organisational procedures.
- Monitoring for seizures and recognising and responding appropriately to medical concerns, including asthma.
- Supporting safe manual handling and wheelchair mobility.
- Driving a wheelchair-accessible van to transport the child as required.
- Supporting emotional regulation and implementing strategies to reduce escalation.
- Completing accurate shift notes, documentation and incident reports as required.
- Following all medication, health, safety and safeguarding procedures relevant to the role.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is reliable, patient and genuinely passionate about supporting children with complex needs.
The successful applicant will be confident working independently, able to follow detailed care plans and comfortable responding to changing situations throughout a shift.
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be physically capable of supporting wheelchair mobility and accompanying the child on extended walks. They must also be comfortable responding to situations where the child may become escalated or attempt to run,
while following established safety and behaviour support strategies.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must have:
- A current Australian Driver Licence and the ability to safely drive a wheelchair-accessible van.
- A current First Aid and CPR certificate, or willingness to obtain these if permitted by organisational requirements.
- A current Paid Blue Card/Working with Children Check.
- A current Paid NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- A willingness to complete all mandatory training relevant to the child's medical and support needs.
- Availability to commit to the advertised shifts.
Experience with PEG feeding, nasal tube care, seizure management, asthma, mealtime management, manual handling and complex behaviours will be highly regarded.
